Not one, but four. The Earth dungeon houses the four dark guardians from FF3.

Yes... I painfully aknowledged it. I wasn't prepared at all when I got there. But now I have my LV5+ White Magic, which help alot (also got my class change just a few minutes ago).

So far I like the changes made.

After finally getting to the 5th floor of the EarthGIft shrine, which housed 2 bosses, I realized I probably wasn't supposed to be there when Cerebus casted Thunder on my entire party dealing 300 damage and basically whiping me out.

Yeah, my set:
Warrior
Theif
Fighter
Red Mage
Each are level 30, so I'm out of that dungeon for now and will continue somewhere else.
(So far this game is cake, excluding the bosses. My theif usually gets 7 hits, dealing more damage than my Warrior, and of course the Fighter just pwns everything, while I have an invincible tank Warrior that can take almost anything. Originally for the PSX version I had a party of Warrior, Fighter, White Mage, and Black Mage, but decided this time I'll just power house through the game.)

Four, Xeo. FOUR.

Try 2-headed Dragon. Use Slowra on the first turn and pray it works. If it does, you win pretty much - that guy uses no magic. 2-head is on the northwest room of the fifth floor. You get a Bard's Tunic for killing him, nice armor for any mage. I took him out at level 26, so you should have no problem.

And sucks to be you - magic doesn't suck anymore. I use my Red Mage for a self-buffing Fighter, since my other two mages are focused on my Warrior. And, since his Intelligence is too low for damage/healing spells, I fill the rest with party buffs like NulFrost. My party is Warrior/Red Mage/White Mage/Black Mage...

Now I gotta get the airship. Accidentaly went to the ice cavern, thinking that was the volcano. Decided to make the best of it and grab the Levistone.

Well I played quite a bit last night and today ...

Got the class change, party is all level 44, so I'm assuming if I cared to travel all the way back down to the EarthGift shrine I could probably take on the bosses. But yeah ... long dungeon.

I've got to say Ninja is the coolest looking character, plus, Black Magic up to level 4 isn't so bad.

I'm on my way to the underwater Dungeon I think, just got access to the "barrel".

Ceveyo: I don't mind not having too many magic users. Simply casting Haste and Temper on either my Knight, Ninja, or Master usually ends the fight anyways.

The only thing I lack is the ability to cure my party at once, but it's rare that I get hit too badly.

Your rewards from the Soul of Chaos bosses (the new bosses) are guaranteed, I think... that's good enough reason for me.

Get the Giant's Glove (or whatever it's called). It casts Saber (or whatever IT'S called ) on whoever uses it. Saber as a spell sucks - can only be used on caster, and only Black Wizard can learn it. But it raises attack power by more than Temper. Naturally, casting it on anyone thanks to an item is good.

I've killed Lich and Marilith, and have the Airship. Level 36, IIRC.

And I think I know why this game's easier, yet not to the point of boredom (like the US FF4 was). They had to make the game flow a bit faster - which removes the need to focus on levelups, since you need less exp to levelup - since it's a portable. That also explains the saving being allowed anywhere. Complain about it all you want, I appreciate it.

oh, and Earthgift is the shortest of the new dungeons. They get much longer. I've read that one has a freaking Inn inside, and a Church! That's gotta be a long dungeon if they did THAT...

Yup, the Soul of Chaos bosses ALWAYS drop their respective item whenever you beat them.

Spoiler:
The only exception is the Ultima Weapon, which is at the end of the final dungeon in a treasure chest after you beat the last boss. It doesn't come back.

IS it normal that whenever I beat the hell out of a SoC boss, I HAVE to go out of the place and restart at the very beggining? Because I fight the boss for like, 3 minutes (way enough time to beat it) and then have to do everything all over again to be the remaining ones (there's too remaining).

Yes, that is normal. You can only fight one of the bosses on each floor. However, that's not a problem in the fourth one, as IIRC, there's only one boss on each floor that has a boss.

I should play this more... but I also have Morrowind. And well... two great games, one has a bigger screen. Bigger screen wins.

Earth has 5 floors, Fire 10, Water 20, Wind 40. There's the option of bailing out after fighting a boss in the latter three dungeons, but you probably wouldn't want to.

I now see what DarkSlaya means about having to go through the dungeons again to fight all the bosses, ugh.

Wind ... 40? Good lord, I was complaining about 5 floors.

Are they seriously worth it? Are they fun?

Yes, they're worth it. Especially the third one (Hint: Omega).
I only finished the first one (Earth) but I was working on the second one, until I decided to go to the mirage tower instead.

Also, Xeo, 40 floors isn't that bad - you only need to make one trip anyway. Which makes it no different from Water, really. 40 floors either way.

However, I'm not going to the 20th floor for now.

Cleared Hellfire Chasm already, got the very helpful Kikuichimonji, which I gave to Red Wizard - had I given it to Knight, Red would be stuck with a freaking Ice Brand. And besides, Knight still has an advantage over Red (accuracy) and not much of an attack disadvantage. Yes, I just said that Red has more attack power than my Knight... almost as much strength and agility, too.

I'd go through and kill Gilgamesh and Atomos, but I haven't killed Kraken. So, off to the sunken shrine I guess.

Now I'm in the Wisperwind Cove.

It's so much better than the other ones, but it takes alot more time to finish (I'm at B18)

Edit: Cleared Wisperwind Cove.... the Ultima Weapon owns.

Fun.....yes, but you have to do the Water twice. There's two bosses on that final floor, and you can't kill both at once. I found Shinryu to be much easier than Omega.

And I found the opposite. I mean, logically, looking at their stats and their weaknesses, it would be more logical to think Shinryu is harder. He was for me! Did you just fight Omega at a low level and Shinryu at a high one?

I fought Shinryu at about 59, and Omega at about 64, and Omega still gave me a tough time.

Shinryu's defense is really low, and anticipating that magic defense for everything would be crazy high (score one for me) I had no Black Mages in my party. Two Knights, Red Wizard, and White Wizard. With the Ultima Weapon in hand, I laid waste to Shinryu (I had never picked up the Masamune, mind you. Hell, I never even traveled to the past yet, I made sure to finish Soul of Chaos first.)

On the return trip, round 2 of Omega. EVEN with the Ragnarok, Ultima Weapon, and Lightbringer, I STILL had a tough time taking him out. (But I didn't leave until I did.)

In that battle, I also discovered that casting Healaga is much more effective than using the Rune Staff. But that didn't help too much when Omega is hitting for 650-800 a round (single, and that's through Protera and Invisira) or 500 to everyone at once. Probably took about 30 minutes, but I did it. (30 minutes for every attempt until he finally croaked, it's a long battle.) If you are fortunate enough to have a Hasted + Forged/Sabered Ultima Weapon going against him, at FULL hp, then it'll do some damage. Good luck staying at full HP though.

Then again, with Omega having crazy high physical defense, using Flare (Ragnarok) and Holy (Lightbringer) was nice too. The damage was about the same either way.

Soul of Rebirth was harder anyway. Not nearly as much game play as Soul of Chaos, but still pretty fun.
