You need the master sword to get in the upper level castle. You also need it at the very least to damage Ganon.

A little off the subject ... but don't mind me asking a question myself.

Concerning the GBA port, I've heard that the Pyramid is an actual Dungeon. Is it something worth seeing? I've never exactly played the GBA version, but I'm someone who'd like to see everything this game has to offer, so I'm just curious in what the extra level is like, about, am I missing anything, etc?

If you're referring to the secret dungeon in the game, that you're only supposed to be able to get to after you've beaten Four Swords, then look at the Palace of the Four Sword FAQ on gamefaqs. There's a VBA code in there that allows you access to the dungeon. You're missing five 'new' bosses, and some slightly tricky rooms that lead to them.

Edit: And a new ending, that shows how many times you used each item, etc.

yes, it's been well known for almost a decade and a half that the bug catching net works on his (good) fireballs.

Hang around gamefaqs long enough and you'll know pretty much all the stuff you said, and all the stuff I said, and pretty much all the stuff everyone here said. Remembering it all at once can be a chore indeed. The one thing you mentioned that I didn't know about was the 50 rupees hidden in the ground (near the huge rock arrow lol. Nintendo's not very subtle but for some reason I thought it was just a joke they made that arrow shape. Reminds me, there's another arrow formation in the eastern part of the overworld. Can't remember if it's light world or not...)

I followed up on it. It was just some quick directions where to go in the maze near the Dark Palace.

In the SNES version, I recall accessing the Chris Houlihan room from the hole that's one screen east of the graveyard (Light World). I only did that once, and sadly I don't have a save state for it, because I was playing the game on the console. That was the only time I accessed the Chris Houlihan room.

What most likely happened is that there was a processor error or a software glitch that randomly occurred. Improper loading of rooms will cause the Houlihan mode to trigger. It's technically not part of the normal game, it's an entirely different submode. I've experienced the same thing you did, beneficii, except that it was in a hacked rom, but in the same hole. The reason it triggered in my rom was because there was no proper pointer to a room to fall into. Can't say for sure in yours though. Snes systems have been known to glitch at random in various ways though.

Yeah, there are various methods for accessing the Chris Houlihan room, but it's also triggered when the game glitches upon you going through a door or pit. This means you can theoretically get there through ANY door/pit, but the odds of it happening are about as good as you winning the lottery.

Huh, interesting.

I wonder what Chris Houlihan is doing now. Most likely, he's all grown up now and he's doing something...

Let's speculate!

And it's time for a random fact:

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past best sellers edition tells you how many times you've died at the end of the game. (hence the number next to your name)

The original doesn't keep track of anything like that. (last I checked)

(I own both, because the game is that awesome)

The original does too, once you beat the game (Although it counts the use of Save+Quit a "dying", which always pissed me off).

The GBA version, on the other hand, doesn't count Save+Quit as dying, meaning I used it to 000 the game for the first time in my life (I was never a bad enough dude to go through it in one sitting; I think my previous low was something like 13).

Hmm... mind explaining yourself there?

You need the Power gloves to lift that rock on the mountain, revealing the warp to the Dark World. (first time going there)

So...?

Correct. But nowhere does it say you have to actually beat the dungeon (I'm doing something similar in the Dark World on this playthrough to basically make the early bosses crap themselves when I go after them with the Golden Sword and Blue Mail, and maybe I'll throw the Mirror Shield in there too for the hell of it.). Although maybe there's something I'm missing here.

Basically, I got the Hammer and Hookshot from the first two dungeons, and left. Next will be going to Blind's Hideout, getting the Titan's Mitt, leaving, doing everything I need to get the Tempered Sword. Go into the third dungeon, and actually beat that one because my strategy consists of "Let Golden Bee go house on Mothula". Beat dungeons five and six at this point, get Super Bomb, use it to get Golden Sword and Silver Arrows. Then go back and pound the ever-loving crap out of the bosses I let live earlier (After getting the Mirror Shield from Turtle Rock, if I feel like it).
