The game was set to start at 1pm, and they were set to play a double header, but Tampa was late and once they got there, the fans were booing and so forth. Don't they know it was due to delays because of not one, but two freaking hurricanes hitting their homes and delaying the airports. Urg....... (edited by Anya on 09-09-04 12:41 AM) |

Well the Yankees have done the following in one week: Demanded that TB get to NY on Friday, three days before any game were to start. (And, at that time, the hurricane would hit.) TB already announced that they will remain in Tampa to stay with their families and fight out the storm. They said they could leave Sunday night or Monday morning, but didn't or couldn't. Nobody knows. Then... Demanded that TB forfeit the game missed. Even gave interviews about this. A huge PR disaster for the Yankees. Now they are saying they never demanded a forfeit, but will bill MLB. You know, all those free hot dogs and soda's can catch up and bite you in the ass if you aren't careful. They tried to make up the games today, but both were rained out, try again TOMORROW. Doubleheader, Thursday, starting at 3 pm. That still leaves one game though, because there were two games scheduled to be played, so logic would conclude that the Devil Rays will have to be in NY Friday for another game. Well, unless they have a different game on Friday... In the end, it's always been true, the Yankees suck. |

Anya, you guys got us in the playoffs last season, not it's our turn to win. It's hard to like a team that's won the world series twice without ever finishing in first place. And a week ago I said: The Orix Blue Wave also lost a game 26-7 last season. Every 26-run outburst in baseball has resulted in 7 for the losing team. Bizarre. ... which has, just moments ago, been overturned. Congratulations to Kansas City, 26-5 victors over the Tigers: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=240909206 |

Yanks are hurting, well, El Duque is. Sore shoulder would've made him miss the start vs Twins tonight. Except the game was rained out. Originally would've been Lohse vs Hernandez, but now that his start was pushed back, he gets to face Santana. I would think the Red Sox would want the Twins to sweep the Yankees. I doubt anyone wants to face the pitching and bullpen we have. Then again, I doubt the Yankees either... OK, my original predictions were way off... Can I make new ones? |

I'm working on a blog post about the Expos right now. Long story short, this shouldn't have happened. I place most of the blame on Selig and Loria (I don't care what you say Anya, the guy's a total prick) and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a plan in place when Loria bought the team to get them out of Montreal eventually. Once the new stadium plan was nixed... That was it. I'm not upset at Washington. They were given the opportunity to get a MLB team and I hope that they do a good job with the franchise. There was a sign at the game last night that said something like: "Washington, you're getting a good team here - take care of our Expos!" If only we didn't have a strike in the '94 season where we went 74-40 and were drawing crowds of 25,000; if only we didn't have to go through all the fire sales; if only we had a actual chance (without insane road trips) to have one playoff run during the last few years... And honestly, if anyone decides to nail Loria on the head with a beer bottle tonight (the bastard's at the game since the Marlins are in town), be my guest. *sigh* |

well, hopefully 3rd times a charm for Washington since this is the 3rd MLB franchise they are getting in the history of the game. All people can do now is hope for new success in Washington. | |||

They're going to come crawling back. Funny thing - lots of baseball analyists are keeping the door open on this one. Apparently a LOT can go down in the next month or two... fingers crossed. |

As heard (okay, I said it) in the newsroom, during a debate on names: "Good thing they can't use the Senators... I mean, it worked out SO well for them the last two times..." And Bill Lee, when asked if he'd see them play in DC: "HELL no. First in war, first in peace, last in the NL East." Although from what I hear, the owner before Loria's to blame for getting that ball rolling. Loria didn't help matters at all, but Claude... forgot his last name... pissed off fans and dumped great talent, right? Although a golf ball ain't exactly a bottle, and Mike Lowell is no Loria. ;P |

Yeah, they're still going to womp, only they'll womp in Washington. If this guys' idea of a grand ole time is to dump an MVP canidate...they won't be going no-where |

Brochu has some of the blame but we got SCREWED with the strike in 1994. Odds are that if we kept drawing good numbers the rest of the season and had a decent playoff run, the fire sale wouldn't be as dramatic - or we might have actually had kept our fan base. Go figure. Everyone thought Loria was the savior of the Expos at the time... now looking back, we wouldn't be surprised if there was a fix in the deal from day 1. |

Dunno I'd say fixed, because it makes no sense for MLB to deliberately submarine one of its franchises. But they were certainly neglected. And good news: MLB sez Youppi! will follow the ex-'Spos to Washington. You KNEW they wouldn't let him fade into Bolivia. |

One of the ESPN writers said exactly the same thing - if this happened in America, there'd be a huge uproar. But the team's in Canada, so... (Said writer also told us to flip the bird at MLB. ) Oh we knew about Youppi. At least they'll do THAT much although the fans in DC are going to wonder where the hell that idea came from. Or he becomes the real-life Capital City Goofball. |

Muahaa! The playoff spirit is in the air! The brackets are as follows: ALDS: 3 - Twins vs 1 - Yankees ALDS: 4 - Red Sox vs 2 - Angels NLDS: 3 - Dodgers vs 1 - Cardinals NLDS: 4 - Astros vs 2 - Braves Thoughts? |

Dear New York Mets: Did your singer really have to totally botch O Canada during the Expos' (probable) final game? I mean, you guys aren't the Yankees - I'd like to think you have class. Best wishes to Omar Minaya, Colleen |

This is the Mets, though, who set an astonishing standard for futility over the second half of the season. And who was it precisely that was responsible for the Expos dumping off every piece of talent they had over the past 10 years or so? I'm not really up on the ownership history of the 'Spos. |

Brochu was the first one but it was more a necessity than anything else - we likely could have kept the team as-is if it WASN'T for the '94 strike, but that happened and we ended up screwed basically. Loria would be the one responsible in recent years for absolutely tanking the franchise, the new stadium, the payroll, etc. |

Dear Jarrod Washburn: Just in case you're wondering, the proper follow-through after your pitches in game 1? * Duck. * Cover. * (Optional) Watch 'em fly out of Anaheim proper. Thank you. -Management |
