Man, Griffey has BAD luck, huh? Out for the season with a torn hamstring. Meanwhile, Montreal figured out the PERFECT time to have $5 day again... tomorrow night. Against ARIZONA. And Johnson's not even pitching... |

Poor Griffey, I really was pulling for him this year. Damn it all, he could have been bigger than Bonds. |

He's not the only one. Philly's pitcher Kevin Millwood is out indefinetely with elbow problems.

Yeah, but it's not like people said "oh man Millwood I feel so bad for him. He could have been Cy Young" I think I misintrepreted that, nevermind. |

Since I don't think the question was ever actually answered, I don't think Pedro even has 200 wins yet, let alone 300. Anyway, one of my friends has suggested that 250 wins be the new "magic number" for the Hall of Fame, as 300 is now. Thoughts on this? |

yeah, pedro is only at 179 right now. as for 250 be the new magic number? probably not because baseball milestones have never been lowered in baseball. i do not see a reason to begin now. |

They won't do that. As long as it's possible, which it still is, they'll keep it.

If they lower the bar to 250, the descendats of people like Jack Quinn (247 wins) will start huffing and puffing until they lower it just a shade more. And Maddux has picked up win #301! |

Exactly, it'd turn into a huge clusterfuck. And wow, this is a very uneventful MLB season. |

Originally posted by Comrade General Toxika I don't know about that, there's 7 teams going for 2 wild card spots. The AL west is insane with the division race, and two ace closers fell apart. Gagne twice, and Joe Nathan once. All within two days of each other. Meanwhile, Greg Maddox received win 301, so he's completely across that threshold. Now the Cubs look like they are FINALLY getting their act together, but too little too late, no division title for them. They'll have to crush the Giants, Padres, Marlins, and Astros to claim the wild card. This should be an interesting 6 weeks, to say the least. |

I mean like, there's not much I can put as a title. Gagne blows 2, Nathan 1 isn't very cool. It is exciting, seeing as how almost every team is decent and can mess up other people's plans. |

Well, I figured something else out. How's this title? After all, seven teams in the wild card hunt seems like big enough news.

If the CUbs keep playing like the losers that they were today, they don't deserve to win anything.

PWN! Indians over the Yankees... 22-0 Combine that with the Red Sox win today, the Yankees lead the AL east by 3.5 games. (edited by Lenophis on 08-31-04 10:47 PM) |

There's history here.... The last biggest loss the Yankees ever suffered was 18 runs, back in 1928. This was from the Indians, AT Yankee stadium. Today, 22 runs, against the Indians, AT Yankee stadium. 22 runs on 22 hits, while the Yankees were held to 5 hits. Just think of the difference Sheff would've made had he been playing...

Booyah. We have the second most runs scored in the majors. Now if we could only get a good bullpen, and steady our starters... |

Aw...to see that score board again. Isn't the highest score within one game is 26 runs? Who was it by again? |

Apparantly Chicago beat St. Louis 36-7 wayyy back in 1897. And Omar Vizquel tied the all-time AL record for hits in a 9-inning game. |
