It just might! XD I think they will put measures in place but they'll have to stop short of a full ban... I'm guessing bars are going to be fair game regardless of the policy. That should stop the revolt... for now. |

If they are going to have marijuana be illegal, then they damned well better have tobacco be illegal. However, in the U.S., the industry is too big to fight with and shut down. So, since that will remain legal here, it would make sense to legalize marijuana... off topic, yes, but I thought I should say it.

A sales ban, such as the one in Bhutan, is not likely to happen in a million years in any western countries.... |

If you don't want to be around smoke, don't work at a damn bar. If you make provisions there, you'd have to make provisions for many other low end professions. For example, if you work in fast food, you can often eat to your heart's (ironic) content, but the food is terrible for you. Hence, you'd have to require fast food chains to provide their workers with healthy food. You'd have to make factories idiot proof so people wouldn't get limbs chopped off and stuff. I always thought that if you take a job, you have to be prepared to handle the territory. For one thing, I'm positive the smoking ban in my college town is going to reduce patronization in bars. So, in the long run, it may end up hurting the people "trying to make a living." |

Can't the FDA regulate tobacco now in the States? I know they can't ban it or anything but they could force the companies to follow certain laws... I remember reading an article about that a few weeks ago. Don't forget than in America it's up to the states; some have harsher laws (California, New York) than others. Taxes also depend on the states as well. |

I wouldn't mind if it was banned. I Know some people who lose way too much money because of this. I don't even think it's harsh at all. Heck, here in Quebec they want to make somethings illegal (that would put alot of small buisness in danger), so why wouldn't we render Tobacco illegal too?

.....If tobacco was illegal in Quebec you'd have RIOTS in the streets. It's not going to be made illegal in the near future. It can be regulated, the taxes can go up, etc... but they won't go into a prohibition of sorts. |

nope, it would never go illegal, at least, not until the majority, and I mean the 99.99% majority, weren't smoking anymore.... although, by then it wouldn't matter.... but, I wish it was.... smoking is just stupid |

I don't enjoy any kind of tobacco.... not to say it doesn't have use.... I do believe it's good on bruises?.... I think that's what I remember hearing it was actually good for.... but other than that.... I don't see why we would use it.... it just.... seems to harm... and sure, maybe not the tobacco as much as all the other crap in the ciggarettes people buy.... but, that's pretty much the tobacco people buy.... |

I don't care either way. If you ban tobacco, congratulations it will just be like pot and a bunch of other drugs. Everyone does it, but it is still illegal. If someone is sitting next to me and smokeing... I move. I can't stand the smoke, because I was raised with clean air and the smoke almost kills me sometimes. (major exagerations for the idiots out there) I can't stand it, but I don't care. It isn't hard to move, plus, every restraunt in this town has a smoking section and a non smoking section.

See, MathOnNapkins, I don't know about the US, where politicians have pretty much supported the business owners throughout the years, and the labor unions have had no power whatsoever, but over here, as a result of our strong labor unions and socialdemocratic governments, we've gotten a lot of laws regarding the work environment. The idea that "if you take a job, you have to be prepared to handle the territory" is quite foreign here, and honestly seems quite silly to me.

Well, I don't see it as an entirely bad thing. For one thing, it's motivation to find a better job in many cases. |
