On the "World Affairs/Debate" description, it says for political, religious, or serious debates, and the topic of browser preference has become quite serious, so I'm sure this goes here  .I use Firefox. I have never had any trouble with HTML formatting, never had problems with anything at all, plus it has tabbed browsing. Besides that, I would have switched anyway, because I used to wake up, go look at my desktop, and see 200 popups that would appear because of spyware I had gotten in IE. Even now when I open IE, I get spyware. Using ad-aware that much is just a waste of time. So yeah... flame me. >) |

| I vote for Firefox, Mozilla, Konqueror, Opera, Safari, et all. I do NOT vote for IE, Crazy Browser, Avant Browser, etc. My reasons are simply SECURITY. I work in IT, and I clean up the mess that IE (and IE based browsers) make pretty much daily. At first my thoughts were more or less just "spyware sucks, run adaware", but I started recommending my clients use Firefox/Opera etc over a year ago, and I discovered that the users I converted to alternate browsers STOPPED CALLING ME EVERY TWO MONTHS TO CLEAN UP THEIR MACHINE! YAAAAAY!! So now I tend to recommend that people use browsers other than IE whenever they can, and use IE only when they absolutely have to -- or face the alternative of cleaning up their PC frequently. Out of the alternate browsers, I like and use Firefox.  |

| If you're asking about the Browser Wars... the first series is over. Microsoft won a majority. That was Netscape vs. Internet Explorer. Microsoft won only because AOL bought Netscape. The second series of wars is obviously here. And it's now Every Good Browser vs. Internet Explorer. The still lack of votes for IE should show what I voted for. | recently, I've been splitting my time between IE and mozilla and quite frankly, i'm indifferent on both. IE has startup speed and integration with windows while mozilla is less integrated with the system and has useful features. Page rendering is about 97% the same and the 3% i never see except for Taryn's (Tarale's) layout. as for IE problems, I have never had problems because of IE exploits. I've used IE pretty much since Win98SE and I have yet to have system meltdowns, spyware, system takeovers, and all the other problems IE is plagued with. In the end, use whatever works and take responsibility for what you decide. |

| I am on Windows XP SP2, needed IE only after a fresh install to get an up-to-date firewall and antivirus and didn't get any malware. The last download done in IE was the Mozilla Firefox Win32 installer. Firefox needs five seconds to start up after I booted (since it cannot be cached beforehand, like when you shut down FF and reopen it again), but IE lacks many of the features I miss. Mouse gestures, tabs, adblock etc. which is easily configured by the extension manager. The Mozilla Suite has E-mail and ChatZilla included of course, but I rather like plain Firefox and Thunderbird as stand-alone applications, since Mozilla Suite takes a lot more of RAM. And Firefox improved significantally since 1.0PR when it comes about rendering speed of pages. |

| Opera > IE > Firefox > * That's pretty much the way I see it, given on my original machine Opera did fine browsing, IE did considerably well, and Firefox lagged behind miserably. I tried it, didn't like it. I'm too used to Opera/IE's interface. (now, if you had said "Alternative Browsers", yes, I would've voted for that) ----------- And I use IE at home on my tower because no other browser (except Lynx, probably, heh) will even RUN at a decent speed (I decided to finally get off my ass and get Opera, huge mistake. It barely loads, but what a suprise, it's a fucking 350 MHz ccomputer, ugh) When I tried loading FF on my old 300, it was even slower loading that Opera (about 1m for FF and 40sec for Opera), plus Opera saves my pages if it quits. Firefox will do nothing if it crashes. That, and I like how Opera is like a Swiss Army Knife in that it has pretty much anything I'll ever need in one convinient bow-tied package. No downloading of 500 plugins, no craptastic download manager (transparancy sucks, go away) etc. Firefox lacks mouse gestures, and I found no good/useful plugins on my short browse of the site (argh) Oh well. My main problem with Opera is that it's set to ID as Internet Explorer by default (hehe, handy feature) |

| I'll never use IE again, even with it's "improved" security on SP2 (because it slows it down alot). However, Xkeeper I'd say that Opera is an interresting choice. Also, I Must agree with you that FF has one big problem, and that problem is startup speed and having a hard time to run on old computers. I still vote for Firefox. |

| IE is the one of the worst pieces of shit I've ever had the misfortune of using. It's laughable attempts at competeing with standard's compliant web browsers is starting to look futile at best. With it's lack of features and mosiac "based" rendering engine it's only attempt at keeping users is whoring itself to the OS and thus making it an even worse web browser. I support Mozilla/Firefox more than any other browsers/backends. I'm not a fan of KHTML (Safari, Konqueror) but I still see them as being an "ass load" better than IE. Viva la open source. Fuck you Microsoft.  |

| I have a different reason why I voted for Mozilla FireFox, not only because of the excellent security, but because it complies with the w3c standards. I built webpages to comply with the standard, but whenever IE is used, webpages wouldn't load correctly with IE. Take my homepage as an example - "Kirby Frames". As you can see, I used frames within my webpages, but IE doesn't load them correctly, only Mozilla FireFox and other browsers (not IE related) will load the page correctly, what I'm trying to say is that IE most likely doesn't comply with the w3c standards, but instead uses it's own standard, correct me if I'm wrong. But that's my side of the story here, and I believe that other web browsers should follow the w3c standard as well. Therefore, I vote Mozilla FireFox.  *Votes Mozilla FireFox* |

| Don't forgt people using their computer maybe once per day for ten minutes - checking their Email using the web frontend of their provider or Outlook (Express). They won't need and probably don't want to notice any differences using another browser. People using the internet for much longer time-spans will get interested into it and see if there's a reliable alternative than IE. As for that board, when the preview version of a message didn't have another "preview" button, you had to go back manually. Very often Internet Explorer killed my post when I got back - the input field was empty. So until early 2002 - when I still was using IE and then switched to Opera -> Mozilla Suite -> Firebird/-fox - I had to copy the answer, get into preview reply, go back and mostly to reinsert the copied text into the input field. When I had Paint Shop Pro 7 open and I was editing images, I sometimes ended up losing the clipboard text when I copied image data and wanted to post. You were running instant messengers and simply "forgot" or didn't see you just needed to edit your reply  As for Pegasus' page, I'm on ISDN but I really notice major differences between the page viewing in Firefox 1.0 and Internet Explorer 6. While Firefox builds up the layout pretty fast, IE needs about three of four times the time to render the page. And indeed it looks better in Firefox, like nicer frame etc. |
