I installed FFDShow and Lazy Man's MKV in order to play .OGM files, and it's working, but they're so ridiculously choppy! Even if I set WMP to max priority, it barely improves. What can I do to fix it? (The file in question is 231MB, ~26 minutes, with subtitles and dual audio.) And don't just say use another player.  |

| yup because I have a few of those types of files, although it is a little tricky in getting them to run... well, i went here to get them working--if this fails for you, then you need to run something better than a celery and 4MB of video ram. I remember i had a P3-450Mhz and only 2.5 of video ram and that barely played DivX5 anime. |

| then your system isn't fast enough to handle the DivX algorithm and do the processing necessary because rendering video always needs a lot of resources, if you can't give it enough then you are out of luck... what you could try doing is to convert the video into another format that your computer is capable of |

| On my Celeron 300, movies were (of course) extremely slow. The trick was to let something run for around 2-3 minutes then start it again at the beginning. It wasn't perfect but at least everything was in sync and the movie was watchable. |

| Hmm...that suggests to me that your hard drive/IDE controller couldn't keep up with the movie player. Movies are often cached in RAM as they play, which is much, much faster than a hard drive, so when you restarted it, it was playing from RAM instead of the hard drive. That probably boosted performance a lot. How much RAM do you have, HH? Installing more *might* help playback a bit... |

It probably did but the rest of the movie would run smoothly after that. Usually was just anime episodes but at least they were watchable after the "start-up" period.  Hey - don't have to worry about the problem now, but it worked in the past. That's all that matters. |

192MB. I could certainly use more.  As far as DMA, it's enabled on both HDs. Though, come to think of it... The one the video is on is older, and has compression enabled... Think turning that off or moving the file to the newer, bigger HD would help? |

| Hmm... Not very compressed (only a few K smaller) but I'll give it a shot. On another note, Photoshop's temp file compresses from 257MB down to 22.  (I probably shouldn't have that compressed, but it uses random filenames so I can't just disable compression for it.  ) |

| for the compression thing, if you have photoshop use a folder that is not compressed, then the files in the folder will not be compressed | |||
