"Something that's pointless to you, may not be to somebody else."

And something that's not pointless to someone else, may be pointless to me. What's your point?

"I just tend to believe that if something is worth doing at all (ie, having banners there), it's worth doing properly, that's all."

Like I said, I really don't see how your configuration is a vast uprade in any way shape or form. As a matter of fact, if this thread never existed and it did change, I probably wouldn't even notice.

"The idea probably is pointless, but then if I really think about it, so's posting on this board at all, really."

Actually, it's really not. Posting can provide countless hours of thought provoking or just flat out insane conversation, which is a form of entertainment. And if you say that's a waste of time, then technically, everything we do is a waste of time so then the whole argument collapses anyway.

"And again, not offended about you going against my opinion, just the way you did it, Legion. Just the way you did it."

Fine. Next time I wont be rational, calm, collected, tactful and pleasant. But remember, you asked for it.

The Firefox thing is prolly there as part of the Spread Firefox campaign -- it encourages you to put a Firefox banner on your website. I do admire the Firefox community, and how quickly it has sprung up -- and gained so much enthusiasm. Firefox buttons are part advertising, part little badges of honor, the same way Trekkies wear Trekkie badges (at least, the Trekkies I know)

As for the "template" thing, I did use the same base for two of the buttons -- because both the originals have scanlines and rounded corners too. So I figured why make more work for myself when I can just use the base for one and change the hue. I had no idea what to do with the donate one, so I didn't do much at all. It did help me find a font I forgot I had though -- Reservoir Grunge

I.. don't really mind if the Firefox banner is there or not, but I know that there are a few users starting to get sick of having Firefox in their face everywhere.

I know XKeeper also mentioned removing the Donate Button, as he said it was for IRC anyways, and not relevant anymore or something, but I don't know anything about that, so don't quote me on that.

.... I guess all I want is for whatever banners that are there to look neat and tidy. And shiny. I like shinies.

If the buttons at the bottom ever get changed(or even if not), could that 2K block of data that is part of the donate link, which is really a form, be removed? Perhaps the form could be moved to its own page and the button link pointed to said page. Perhaps it could be removed completely.

BTW, does anyone know why the Firefox link is inside the donate form tags? It looks like whoever added it was a bit hasty.

1) I like the idea of having standard-sized buttons, DESPITE the fact most people might not notice them. It's not so much about being neat.

2) Legion: If you would stop baiting Taryn sometime in the next... oh... *looks at watch* ..RIGHT NOW, I'd really appreciate it.

I think the smaller buttons would be better - This board takes TWICE as long as my board to post anything. Despite the size of the post

Let me assure you that whatever problems you have with speed, they are not related to the buttons on the bottom of the screen.

Actually I got so much annoyed on how wrong the buttons look on the bottom that I have severeal times considered to block them all. With the in-built image blocking in Firefox.

I actually don't mind their purpose but they are cluttered. Yes they're bottom on the page and it's a small detail. But they would look better with the same size.

...is there an standard when it comes to buttons?

It's partly the connection speed, and the getting of them from the catch firefox makes - this pc's acting slow.. (again)

Most linking buttons are generally 88x31 in size, though there are, obviously, variances.

Yeah yeah. Maxthon does that too. And Flash banners. And ActiveX banners. And... *shot again*

I hardly think that expressing my opinion on the idea, and not the person, is baiting. But whatever. Besides, the discussion between me and her was already over anyway. I just checked this thread on a whim, I almost didn't even see your post.

Just wondering, if you thought the idea was pointless, why post that you thought so instead of wasting time expressing how pointless it was instead of just letting the managers of this board decide wether or not to use them?

I can assure you that 90% of Xkeeper's problem with the buttons at the bottom of the board is the Hosted by Fiftypounds button, lol...

Anyway... Tarale, I asked jesper for MONTHS to make a button for me, but since he REFUSEd, I had one of my customers do it for me....

I can't really complain about something someone did for me for free..... and simply placed it there.

As I provide ALL the resources for the IRC Network AND the forum at this point, I do agree with the fact that the donate button is not needed, consdering, if anyone did actually donate I wouldn't see any of that money anyway... as such I am removing it....

furthermore... I will replace the hosted by button... and the firefox button

I put the FireFox button there, anyway....

That's about as good as it's gonna get for now

Changed on Dev site too http://dev1.acmlm.org

And I can assure you, Erk, that you are wrong.

The buttons look much better now, at least it's not the mess it used to be (and the P. By Acmlm image is placed better, heh)

Overall probably no one will really care, but then again it probably wasn't that difficult to fix.

And I scroll to the bottom of the page often enough (I just hit "End" in threads for the newest post(s)).

I just have everything down there adblocked, doesn't matter anyway though since I never go down there.
I stand by the removal of the paypal button, it has been misleading from the start. People thought the money went for the boardhosting but the boardhosting was free, it actually went to Emuz to have the acmlm.org name on IRC. As far as I know there's only been one donation anyway.

yeah well if someone doesn't have $10 a year for a domain, they shouldn't have bought it in the first place, haha

but like... I bought forgetit.net

and Russel (Marius) was actually supposed to pay for it, and he never friggin did.... or the other domain I bought for his happy ass
