MICROSOFT BOB!!!!

That screenshot is awful, it's not even good pixel art!

Eh, I'm worried about the restrictions that they will put into Longhorn. I am becoming very concerned that Microsoft is enabling corporations (such as themselves) to take the control of the computer and your own files more and more OUT of the hands of the user.... and I very much hope that Longhorn does not enable this to happen. There have been a lot of things, "features" that have been discussed that have the potential to take control out of the hands of the user.

To be fair, I don't think that's actually "pixel art"...I'm pretty sure it's vector art. With the lack of anti-aliasing and high-color support, though, it does indeed look awful.

But of course. It's the goal of both major software corporations and Hollywood to turn every computer into nothing more than a glorified, semi-interactive TV, force-feeding you what they want you to see. And thanks to a few corrupt politicians sneaking hideous new laws past the oblivious public, some of the proposed (and already manufactured) DRM technologies are coming frighteningly close to achieving that goal.

It all sounds like the ramblings of some wacko nutjob, but if you dig deep enough, you'll find out just how true it is...

I fear the day when those sorts of things become everyday stuff At the rate things are going, that's probably not very far ahead in the future either.

Now, although Avalon is supposed to be a core part of Longhorn, Microsoft is also releasing a beta addon for XP sometime next summer. I'm not exactly sure who it's going to be released though. The article I read this on says it's only being released to developers that subscribe to the MSDN. One paragraph down though, they don't make any reference to it being released to a select group at all

You can go here to read the full article.

That's my #1 concern. I barely trust XP as it is. One can only imagine the boot process for this...

Starting Windows...
Loading kernel: OK
Initializing filesystem: OK
Warning: ROMs found in C:\ROMs. Dialing 911: OK
Bringing up network interface: OK
Destroying MP3 CD: OK

But of course, that's never going to happen. Because you'll never see a version of windows that shows that much detail in its bootup.

We already have programs and hardware that detect when you print or scan money, and some of these will just give you a warning, by sending you to a web page explaining that what you did was wrong. No doubt, the visit and the warning are logged by the Secret Service.

Thing is, you can print and scan money without it being counterfeiting..... (art project? marketing campaign?)

I'm worried where this so called "Trusted Computing" is going to take us... and if our machines are going to become tools for the FBI, Secret Service, RIAA, MPAA, etc...

Bob was - unquestionably - Microsoft's worst fKitten Yiffer ever. I remember reading a few magazines which were hyping the thing, but the editors had to know they were getting paid off bigtime to spread such lies.

Hey, that reminds me of something. Though I haven't heard a lot about it lately. =(

Microsoft already took control of the user's PC in the Windows 2000 SP2 and the Windows XP (any service pack) EULA.
