Sometime today, something in my server broke. I came home to see it being down and not starting up no matter what. I then decided that I'm tired of taking care of this myself. Over the past few months it's also been consuming more and more bandwidth, leaving less and less for the rest of my own private connection, driving both me and my family mad. I've ordered a hosting account that's hopefully big enough to fit all of your stuff. It will be up again as soon as possible. All data is intact - I have checked the HD - and will be transferred; however I might not recall the exact usernames and passwords for your FTP accounts and this is something that will be taken care of. Email addresses and webmail will also be provided, finally. Any questions go here. Now aren't you glad I introduced blockable layouts? |

Are you sure you didn't do this on purpose? Or it's just odd luck? You was talking about giving up your server yesterday. So, just curious. But who was the host now again? (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 11-10-04 03:47 PM) |

Sometime today? Oh, and I officially (officially) request email, ftp, and webmail. The ftp being the most important. And none of this non-remote linking shit either. |

Part of the good of having stuff hosted for you is that you won't have to worry about your server going down while in dial-up land, or that your server will be hacked because you don't know the OS inside out. I've decided to go with a different host than I showed you, Kitten Yiffer (that was on monday as I recall, and not yesterday). I'm going with Aletia, the host of wootboard dot net as it was, and the current host of rydain.org if I'm not mistaken, which is how I heard of it in the first place. A kickass deal either way you turn it, and a good bang for the buck. (ErkDog, before you say anything, hush. I have my reasons for not picking you, you know, the way I have my reasons for not picking literally thousands of other hosts, including myself. ) (edited by Jesper on 11-10-04 04:36 PM) |

If some people ask politely, I may let them use some room on my server Honestly, the only thing I'm waiting for is the Custom Titles to come back. |

unless you pay for TWO YEARS up front... the bang on that provider is alot less per buck than with my hosting... $10 bucks a month buys you 1500 megs of harddrive and 90 gigs of bandwidth with me..... |

Wouldn't be surprised if Jesper went for three years up front. Apparently it's a great all-around host. Ashley: He said they are, so they are. I think. |

This upsets me greatly. I am upset to the point of losing my monocle (in shock). Maybe his new host will have PHP5. That would be good. On the other hand, if it doesn't have GD, my world is shattered. What will become of The Caw????!!?!?!? |

And you will try to get the files on that host today yes? And oh, it would be awesome if you tried to revive wootboard yet again. If it's not taking too much bandwidth or anything... |

Originally posted by Kitten YifferIt's copying right now. When it's on my primary HD I will try to upload everything - I will need to filter out needlessly big files. I know some people have been uploading stuff temporarily and there's no shame in that, I was as guilty as anyone, but with a 1GB limit, they'll just have to go, I'm afraid. I checked phpinfo last night; GD and FreeType are both in, which means custom title support! I hope the code will "just work" though; there are different versions of GD out there. |

jesper.... I read your fucking post... and I fucking comprehended it.... and way to not read my fucking post either.... I simply am stating that I actually give -more- for less... .if you look at what I --actually-- give you... as far as support... the ONLY thing I have never done for one of my customers that has asked me is install PHP 5..... I'd like for it to be around just a hair longer before I jump on that boat..... I make backups in case "something goes boom" I don't make backups in case one of my customers runs a PMA Query and deletes 1,000 users on accident..... so I guess if you want to pay $5 a month more to cover your ass in the instance that you can't not delete 1,000 users from your users table, then that's your peroggative... I make backups to cover something on my end going wrong.... I provide unmanaged hands off hosting at a --very-- good price.... I wasn't arguing that you should have gone with me really... just saying that for the acuall "buck" I give more "bang" but as we all know that's ultimately irrelevant... becuase none of my customers use 500 megs of hdd or 45 gigs of bandwidth..... nobody uses that much shit.... I actually am in negotiatons with a guy right now for his business... he has 600 megs of data actually.... but he only uses like 20 gigs of bandwidth a month.... and hahha look at this traceroute... 1. 226.67-19-48.reverse.theplanet.com 0% 2 2 0 0 0 0 2. dsr2-2-vl7.dllstx4.theplanet.com 0% 2 2 0 0 0 0 3. dsr1-2-v1.dllstx2.theplanet.com 0% 2 2 1 0 1 1 4. dist-vlan22.dsr3-2.dllstx3.theplanet.com 0% 2 2 1 1 1 1 5. ae0-0.ibr2.dllstx3.theplanet.com 0% 2 2 1 1 1 1 6. ge-8-0-124.ipcolo2.Dallas1.Level3.net 0% 1 1 1 1 1 1 7. so-1-2-0.bbr1.Dallas1.Level3.net 0% 1 1 2 2 2 2 8. so-0-1-0.mp2.Houston1.Level3.net 0% 1 1 6 6 6 6 9. so-8-0.hsa2.Houston1.Level3.net 0% 1 1 6 6 6 6 10. unknown.Level3.net 0% 1 1 6 6 6 6 11. hou-rtr3-vl2.cyrusone.com 0% 1 1 7 7 7 7 12. vl2-rtr1.nocdirect.com 0% 1 1 7 7 7 7 13. jaguar.nocdirect.com 0% 1 1 7 7 7 7 (edited by ErkDog on 11-11-04 08:04 AM) |

Originally posted by ErkDogOw. I earned that one though. Originally posted by ErkDogI agree. You do provide unmanaged hosting at a very good price. The point is that I have run my own "unmanaged hosting" for two years, and I'm sick of it, and I want to get away from it. If the server I'm on goes down, they'll have a lot of incentives to fix it, which is not different from any other host. The difference is that they have guys there 24/7 to make sure it will go up again. Neither I nor you can offer that. And that's what I want. Originally posted by ErkDogI set a minimum for my hosting to have 1GB, because I host a few people myself. I have no idea how much bandwidth I'm using, but given that it over the last few weeks slowed my own connection to a crawl, I'm just happy it's not slowing it down here anymore. It's now uploading. 890MB, and I had to omit some of the big files - a lot of high resolution photos of the DS from Kirby PopStar's E3 coverage. Sorry, man. Oh, and I still have databases to do. You'll all have to prefix all database names and usernames (but not table names) with "jwootest_" to get things working. Everyone hosted and having their own database, please send me a PM detailing some files that should need changing in that aspect and I'll try to do as many as I can. |
