About 3 months back now, I picked up a pack of 5 Memorex 4x CD-RWs at the mall. I gave my friend one to use to bring some GTA Vice City mods from his computer to ours (we didn't have the internet back then). They seemed to work fine on his computer, but he did make a comment about having to make an ISO out of all the stuff he wanted to bring, and burn that to the CD. There were a couple MP3s on my computer that he wanted to get on his XBOX, so I tried burning them to the same CD we'd used before after I'd erased it. That process seemed to go fine, but right at the end I got some error message (I can't remember what now). We tried sticking the CD in the XBOX anyways, and it was readable there, but not on any other CD player in the house. A couple days later, I decided I wanted to make another CD, so I went through the normal steps of choosing the song (yes, only one, but it was almost 80 minutes long), and went to burn. That started a whole chain of getting error messages about the CD not being writable, etc. In fact, whenever I put the CD in the drive and started up Nero, the program froze, and I couldn't eject the CD until I restarted the computer. I tried putting a new CD in the drive, and I still didn't get anywhere. I do have the Nero CD that came with the computer, so don't think it's a pirated copy. I'm starting to wonder if the CDs themselves are just crap (the fact they're 4x is a big thing), or if I'm missing something painfully obvious. The drive in this computer is an LG CD-RW / DVD-R combo drive. In case you want the speeds, CD is 52x / 24x / 52x, and the DVD is 16x. I'd like to be able to use these CDs if it's at all possible, but I don't know if it is or not. |

Well, what size do the CD's hold? 4x doesn't say anything. They'll either be 650 or 700 megabytes. If they have been burned once, and finalized, you won't be able to use it again for burning purposes. If they are new, then they are fresh. Also, are they meant for DVD burning, or CD burning? Nero is capable for both, and you might have selected the wrong type to burn. Make sure you check that. Also, when burning, don't do anything. Less chance that the buffer will cause problems. Does that help? If nothing else, upgrade your Nero software, or get new software altogether. *shrug* |

Sorry. I knew I forgot to put something in. They're 700Mb / 80 Min. CDs, and they're meant for CD burning. I've tried closing everything unneccesary and then running Nero, but that doesn't get me anywhere. It's version 5.5.9.9 and it came pre-installed with this computer. Both times when I tried burning something, I'm positive I chose 'Music' and then 'Audio CD'. I'll try another program, but what would you recommend? |

Something I missed as wellOriginally posted by Karadur CD's have a hard time burning at max capacity. Realisitically, you probably have about 78 minutes of audio to burn, and it'll probably bug you to finalize it. The problem could also be that you are using rewritables instead of one timers for this situation. Just something to consider... As for software, I'm not aware of others, you could try this google search. |

you can't erase the CD? hmm, maybe you should try another program. Also, there is a tool called DVDInfo Pro v2.2 which has another method for erasing CDs.

I had the same problem with my DVD rewriter (NEC ND-2510A) some weeks ago - it was the burning software. I couldn't burn DVD

I tried downloading the Nero 6 trial, got it to start burning the CD and whatnot, but it stayed at 6% completion for about 5 minutes then gave me some 'Power Calibration' error I tried setting it to burn at 1x speed, but the only option in the list was 4x I just tried opening Nero again to see if I could erase the first CD we used, but now it's telling me that "InCD currently accesses one or more of the recorders" and to eject those CDs first. That's one of the error messages I got before, and I know the only way I'm gonna get it to dissapear is to restart the computer I think I'm gonna buy another CD next time I'm up at the mall, and see if it's just the type I'm using right now, or something else. |
