Way to slow... lucky for me Oregon State University's FTP has it. If you want to download from the non-overloaded server: ftp://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.0/

Yes, it is very slow. Thanks for that Course, I have mine from Mozilla's site as of two seconds ago, so I won't need it, but.. the Slashdotting and Farking have only just begun, so I guess others definitely WILL need it EDIT: Installed now. Looking good so far, but updating my Extensions is going to be fun for a bit. Eeeee... more server overload. Hehe, this is the second time I'll get a new Firefox version within few hours after release (I'm used to this since 0.7 and never got it later than two or three days - 1.0 came four hours after release on my old machine) - even if Firefox promises to be able keeping old extensions, I'll do a clean install - I have six extensions and one additional themes - not too much to lose Anyway I have a German Firefox 1.0 PR atm - I simply replaced the English localization .jar file by the German one from 0.9.2 So now it's really official - Firefox is completed so far ... ARGH, damnit... I hate that I got home late from school. Now the server is heavily overloaded. I try to get it from someone else, and honestly this would fit better in general chat. If anything... more people will see it. |

Yeah, that's the busiest I've ever seen the Mozilla site. I'm sure tons of people are downloading today, but the poor server/bandwidth... Edit: Look at this... (edited by Colleen on 11-09-04 11:22 AM) |

I don't see what's so amazing about Firefox that their servers overload whenever they release a new version and/or the fact that they now have a special homepage on Google of all things. Then again, it's 1.0 Final, so I suppose they can go insane all they want... but I'll stick with IE/Opera (IE on this computer [too slow for anything else] and Opera on everything else) (and before you say something like "omg try it first ", I have, and I didn't like it at all) |

Wait...i thought firefox was already at 1...or was that a 1.0 beta? Google made a page for firefox? Interesting...I wonder if there is one for other non-IE browsers... |

Hehe, got right my six most favourite extensions installed plus Noia 2.0 eXtreme theme again - I didn't notice any speed changes since 1.0PR - but it is as fast as expected and still already builds up tables in boards, where IE still tries to gather all information and then render all at once (edited by Surlent on 11-09-04 03:17 PM) |

FYI, browsers are supposed to wait until all information is downloaded in a table to display -- at least with the automatic scaling option (fixed is different) If you notice, the tables tend to shift sizes when loading in browsers that display while loading, that's why. It needs to constantly go over the table to make sure everything fits as planned in the Auto mode, whereas IE does it once (mabye twice) when all of it is loaded. Granted, displaying while loading makes it seem faster (and doesn't suck)... --------------------------- Also note: trying /opera instead of /firefox gives a 404 error, so no, Google wants the Firefox team to feel special or something. I'm to lazy to check on the main site, so I'll ask here: Will the plugins from the beta version work in 1.0?

Plugins will work when they are ported over. Some of them won't initially, but they should all work in about a week. They just need minor upgrades to them. Adblock and Gmail notifier work outta-the-box. As for not liking Firefox, to each their own. I don't like the current versions of Opera, and haven't for a while (there was a particular release that did it, as I recall.) I've been a Firebird/Firefox user since As for the Google Homepage, that is interesting. There have been a lot of conspiracy theories flying about lately about Google releasing their own Firefox based browser... I don't think anybody expected a Google Firefox Page though. |

Now that's why it asked me about it changing it's homesite to Firefox start. Well, I got it from the offical site. With no problems. Some of my extensions aren't working... but the only one I use is Gmail notifier. The rest is toys... (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 11-09-04 05:08 PM) |

I need my toys working! They make me happy! ... at least, I need Firesomething to work. I'm sure there's a release soon, they're usually quick to keep up with the Firefox releases. I want to put a lot of rude words into Firesomething and see what stuff I get.... As for the homepage, I still like This one the best. |

You know what, X? I tried Opera and don't like it one bit. Everybody has their opinions. When Opera 8 comes out, post a thread if you'd like to. And I'm sure their servers will get bogged down as well. Still you'd have to admit... it's better than IE in every way. |

Yeah. IE gets one point for being able to open .mht files. (Even though they are M$'s proprietary format.) Personally I like plain Mozilla more. It's got all the features I need. |

I believe Opera is more popular in the Scandinavian nations for some strange reason. I had it on my old PC. Ugh. It wasn't terrible but I would rank IE above it just for the sole reason that Opera's rendering engine wasn't great back then. Some pages would look really wonky. I'm sure it's improved now, but I've seen some screens and it looks a bit too busy for me. |
