Firstly Square, oh how you hate us so....

Any game released prior to FFVII - Never Released
FFVIII - Bad conversion (Slowdown, borders. Urgh)
FFIX - Ditto
FFX-2 - Bad Covnersion
FFXI - Not planning to release it here
Einhander - Never released
Xenogears - Never released
FF Chronicles - No Chrono Trigger

ANy Soundtracks at all - Never released.

Other makers....

Most games never released and/or crappy conversions, especially Namco.
Dancing Stage sucks, a LOT. The Licensed tracks are nice but we only geta fraction of tracks the US/Japanese get.

Good stuff.
We get quirky Japanese titles like "Vib Ribbon", you don't.
Konami love us, and we ALWAYS get special editions of their games. We were the first in the world to get Silent Hill 3.

Pretty much everything that was released in the U.S. is also available in Canada ... and most games from Japan come either late or not at all

But that's a lot of games there that never came out in Europe just because of the 50/60Hz difference At least thhe handhelds like GameBoy (or Advance, etc.) shouldn't be a problem ...

Yeah, not only do we get most games the last of all, we also get screwed over with bad conversions. God, the German translation of FF VII sucked. REALLY bad. Sometimes there was even GARBLED text! Or the text exceeded the text window and such.

FFXI - Not planning to release it here

Can't you still order the American PC version and play it? I can't see extra charges creeping into the picture on top of what you have to pay.

Canada was screwed out of the XBox DDR, I believe. Konami forgot to get the rights to the songs in Canada, and... well... (They also locked out Canadians who purchased the game from America on XBox Live, I think.)

Good point Colleen. There isn't anything called "PAL PC" or something like that.

We didn't get Chrono trigger. Nor Earthbound (I like Earthbound more... ). But I don't rembember any newer games that we don't get.

Companies have been better at releaseing games. Sometimes it's just some days between the US and the Europe release.

Ah, still rembember the nine month wait from that Majoras mask was released in Japan. Before it was released in Europa...

Acmlm- The 50/60Hz difference no longer applies because most new TVs can process NTSC signals, (the Dreamcast had a 60Hz option on most of it's games.)

DxEdge should get in this thread ...

From what I've seen, PAL Gamers get less than the US. Although it's been awhile since the US hasn't gotten a specific game, at all. I can think back to the real FFII, and FFIII for Nes, FFV, Seiken Densetsu 3, and a few other awesome Snes games. Now, the US and anything else besides Japan just have a few months more of a wait for games to launch. I think that may be different for the Xbox though ...

Yes, FFXI should be available in Europe. Only for PC, but still available.

By the way:

I'd take that as proof that Square loves PAL gamers.

You have to keep in mind that converting games to PAL compatability is a rather risky financial move. Recoding the games takes a little bit of time, then testing them takes quite a bit of time, especially for action games. (Remember, most of thier formulas and events assume you get 60 inputs per second. Having 50 inputs per second means that some gameplay balance issues will almost always arise.)

Furthermore, European gamers tend to be more picky about thier games. They flock to games like Warcraft III while the majority of them blow off consoles. It's a very small market.

As far as "coverting it to Europe is a lenghy and costly business". Not at all, all they need to do theoretically for the UK at least is to change the regional lockout to "Europe" and tell everyone that it's 60Hz only *shrugs* piece of urine.

I think we're a lot less picky than US gamers, we flock to more diverse games than our US counterparts.

The zelda bonus disc was 60hz only. Many gamers detected that the TV supported 60 hz. As me.

I practically only use 60 HZ when I can use it, so skipping the 50hz mode is no big loss for me.

I think the problem for some games is the translations.

Most GBA games that I see in Europe come in the following 5 languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian. (Sword of Mana has 2 versions, each with 2 of those languages.)

I dunno how Square's handled European release in the past, but imagine having to employ FOUR translation teams...

Yeah, translation is a costly factor, but why all those crappy PAL Convertions?

Ever played Mario Kart 64 on a PAL N64?

The prior console where even worse, PAL Borders everywhere!

But some games are unforgivable, Like Super Mario RPG or Earthbound / Mother.

But worst of all is Nintendo of Europe.

1. Only real support for a handfull of Countries in Europe
-> no VIP System for Switzerland or Austria.
2. Animal Crossing
-> we release it in 2003, we canceled it, maybe a release in fall of 2003. we canned it, again. There's hope for a 2004 release. ARGHL!
3. e-Reader
-> didn't release it yet. Why? Pok

X-2 wasn't bad at all.. well.. not bad enough for me to actually notice it . As for Pal conversions most of them are bad. We were screwed on Chrono Cross, Legend of Mana and a few others too :X.

most of those extra's are in the American games aswell.
So far, the only game I've played that had extra's that the US version didn't have, was FFX.
It would be nice if we'd just get the games; most people buying games here play the English version anyways.
