It's not what you're thinking, I'm not looking for a 4-disk thing that loads setup from the CD...what I'm trying to find is something that allows you to load up just plain DOS without loading up Windows 2000 Pro...or is that even possible? I've tried one thing I found on the net (linked from bootdisk.com) and it gave me crap about one of my files being corrupt and it wasn't what I was looking for either. Loading DOS on boot on an NTFS drive...it'd be a lot easier for me if I had a FAT32 drive because then I could just pop in my old 98 boot and go for broke...but is there anything else? |

There is no MS-DOS underneath Windows 2000 (which was built on NT). Windows NT was made from the ground up to be a protected mode (32-bit) operating system. Now... do you want a boot disk that has the NT loader so you can boot Windows again if the OS loader was damaged? I have a disk like that. Or do you want one that gets you into the Recovery Console (looks like DOS, but it's 2000 without loading the GUI)? I don't know if that's possible or exists. You can do that from the CD-ROM, though. |

You're pretty much stuck if you have a NTFS drive as you say you do, I've been in this situation before, but perhaps this will help you too: http://newdos.yginfo.net/msdos71/index.htm You should be able to find and obtain Weinger's Super MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk designed for that particular purpose, if you're still willing to give it a try. I hope this will have helped you too like it did for me. On a side note, I highly recommend sticking with Fat32 for compatibility with older windows and booting to pure dos via boot disk, unless you need the extra security and other extra features, but that's just me. Hopefully you succeed in fulfilling your needs. |
