| Whenever I'm downloading something, people ban me because I cant seem to get sharing working. Whenever I try and have shares, it makes it so SoulSeek takes freaking forever start up because it has to search my shares every time I start it up. Since I have a slow computer this isnt an option. Does anyone know how to share so that it doesnt take a freaking long time to go though only a few folders? | |||

| I downloaded Knoppix in seven minutes. That's 700 MB... so I was getting around 100 MB per minute, and that'll mean about 1.8 MB per second. It just depends on your connection and the people you're downloading it from. There is no central server (like many others, probably SoulSeek as well) that keeps track of who are "leechers". And for the most part, you aren't blocked from downloading anything. |

| BitTorrent doesn't work in the manner of "Oh, you've uploaded 1GB. Here's a higher speed for you." However, if you have parts of a file that another one doesn't, and they have parts you don't, it may give those parts to the other person, and in turn you get the others. However, this isn't any kind of control mechanism. It's just the way the clients are made... and it's based on mathematics, too. So you download faster that way. Of course, if there's only one person with the file you want and 100 others that want it also, it will take a while. That one person will mostly likely give chunks of 256 KB to one person at a time. |
