Heavily depends on your machine. As far as I know there is no other correction of SP2 after public release, since all the people would have to re-download it again or to wait for PC magazines until they include the CDs again (for smallband users like me).

So, backup your most data first (!), then give it a shot.
If it fails or some programs don't work anymore you need, you _might_ try to uninstall it, but be prepared rather to reinstall Windows if you want to "uininstall" SP2 in a clean way.
If you don't want to use SP2 at all, only download SP1 and all critical patches except the second service pack itself.

As for a download location - Windows Update using IE is the official source

(Or go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp1/network.mspx to get XP SP1a Network Install Package if you need the full one for any reason)

From my own personal experience, I've tried XP SP2, but only in a virtual machine via Connectix Virtual PC 4.1 and nothing much has changed except now there's another icon in the system tray for the new Security Center that's part of SP2, and IE now has a popup blocking feature (the only IE that will have it for that matter), also XP's firewall is turned on by default now in SP2. Be sure you have plenty of HD space (unless you have slipstreamed XP SP2) as XP SP2 took up about 1-1.5 GB of my space in the Virtual HD. And as everyone is saying about program compatibility, I have experienced mild incompatibily with programs, some that I dearly need to use in my everyday life as anyone else would.

I currently have Slipstreamed XP SP1 without SP2 installed, but it is up to you if you want SP2 or not.

As for blocking popups, Firefox will get the job done and will work with any Windows other than XP SP2, so there's no harm in that.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to post 'em here, I'd be glad to help out anyway I can.

Actually, you can download the full installer here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displaylang=en

Any fixes will likely be in Service Pack 3. Sometimes, letter service packs are release, like 1a, that fix major problems but nothing else.

XP on a celery...no wonder it went berserk...but anyways, i think most people don't need SP2--only people with something to lose (i.e. corporations) should care about upgrading...
