It actually makes a lot of sense. Russia does give aide to quite a bit of countries is Euro-Asia. According to some sources I have read, Saddam had WMD's during the Gulf War (Not Nuclear but gasses). It would also explain why UN inspecters were denied access to various sites through out the 90's and early 2000's. Hell polications from America (both sides) and Europe was saying they thought Saddam had them and was starting to develop nuclear techonolgy. I also heard several times back in 2002, very early 2003 that we had found factories. Meh. Either way, I been saying he had them since we wrote a paper on it for History class after Clinton ordered bombings in Iraq (Which was 1998 I believe). |

Meh, I'm not so shocked. I always figured he got rid of them beforehand. But the Russians? Didn't see that coming. Hopefully, this will make a whole bunch of people shut up. |

Yeah, it's not shocking at all really. Anyone with half a brain knew Sadaam had them. It's just when they found nothing there, it gave all the anti-Bush people another reason to jump on him for it.

Um, old news. This is about the 380 tons of missing explosives or whatever, no? It was subsequently proven that those explosives were there after we invaded Iraq, and that... they're not now. No one knows why, I guess, but it wasn't Russia's fault.

Well, did Russia get any money for doing this? Russia have big ecomincal problems, thanks to Stalin his friends. Which everyone should know why. I know for sure that Sweden have good relation with Russia, have the relation between US and Russia got worse? This is not gonna help obviously... |

Kitten Yiffer, Russia's economic sadness is due to Nikita Krushev and his friends. And since the monumentalism that they attempted to create fell flat on its ass, the Soviet Union had been in economic recoil up until its collapse, hence why Russia isn't exactly A-class material for the G7/8 (which is it right now?). And as for the article, this is called speculation. Remember a good HALF of the world benefited from Iraq purchasing weapons. Ukraine was making a killing selling off new age radar. The Russians sold planes, tanks, whatever Iraq wanted. Not really out of anti-Americanism but more out of the fact that they are starving and collapsed and corrupt nations. I really doubt that Russia had the money for a deployment of special forces, and besides they weren't breaking any treaties that they ratified, they may be on the security council but on Arabic issues they tend to be silent and vote against, but never veto. Really, who gives a hell if Russia sold off some overstocked and broken SCUDS a few T-80s and a few broken Hinds or MiGs? Russia is a nation that has a broken economy and one damned good way of making money is selling useless old junk to idiots who buy it. Now, if they were to sell SU planes, T-90/95 tanks and things along those lines, that would send shivers down my spine. They are just as effective as their Western counter-parts. |

So Ziff, are you basically saying that the war still isn't justified, which everyone seems to say it is? I don't care what an article says. We went over there to stop WMD and these don't look like WMD. Of course I could be blind, not sure. |

Originally posted by Dracoon The war was never justified. And I will stand by that. No one says it was. There were no magical Al-Qaeda cells, there were no chemical weapons, no nuclear program, no biological weapons labs. The SCUD missles were in disrepair. Iraq was in shambles by comparison to its military power at the beginning of the Gulf War. Hell, the government was at least stable. It would've only been a few years and few strings pulled to pacify Saddam and bring up the standard of living. |

Originally posted by Dracoon WTF have you been smokin? If everyone thought the war was justified, then Kerry would have only had 2% of the popular vote. The biggest dividing issue between the parties was the justification of the war in Iraq. Have you kept up with current events in the last 3 years? The war still isn't justified, for it never was. The current situtation in Iraq reeks of White Man's Burden (if you don't know what that is, look it up. Then compare it to our taking over their culture and forcing democracy on them right now). So much evidence indicates it wasn't and still isn't justified, including everything Ziff just said. So, why exactly do you think that "everyone seems to say the war in Iraq is justified"? |
