Yeah, I'm kinda bummed that Bush is still president, but that has absolutely nothing to do with what really tears me appart today. It appears that the U.S. has no love for their citizens, as is evident to the fact that 11 states passed state constitutional bans on same sex marriage. Why do people in my country hate gay and lesbian people, the only difference between a gay man and myself is that he finds men attractive and I find women attractive. But when you break it down, is it really that crazy, I mean, women find men attractive, and I don't think that they're crazy for liking men. And I honestly do not buy this bull shit religious arguement against gay marriage. Threre are two types of marriage, religious and legal. The only type of marriage that gay and lesbian individuals are fighting for right now is the legal type. There is no religious ceremony related to legal marriage, you go to the local court and get a marriage liscence, which makes you officially married in the eyes of the government. Many belive that civil unions are the same as marriage, but even if they were numerically exactly the same, the seperation of names between the two is enough to make them inherently not equal. The same logic was used in Brown V. Board of Education. Things that are seperated are inherently not equal, and therefore, segregation in schools between black and white students creates a society that views one group over the other. Well the same is true for marriage and civil unions, gay and lesbian people will always be given the government stamp of, "You're different from us, and we're not going to treat you the same as everyone else in the country that's not like you." This creates a stigma that the government and society does not approve of these individuals, which is a terrible injustice to these faithful citizens of our country. Seeing as bans on same sex marriage are occuring to destroy marriage for gays and lesbians, I wouldn't be surprised to see a ban on marriages that weren't between two religious people, cause that doesn't vibe either with people who argue religion for defending their decision to ban same sex marriage. Thus we arrive at the other problem with these bands, they invariably bring a support of a specific religion or set of religions into the US government. As is in the Constitution, the Government is not allowed to support or created a lack of support for a religious group, therefore, they should not force all mariages to follow a religion.

I'd just like to say that I'm a very religious person and I don't expect or want churches to change their versions of marriage, because those are rooted in totally different aspects of our society. Basicaly, religions are private and they have legitimate reasons and arguements to not allow gay and lesbian mariages because it directly violates their scriptures, but same sex marriage does not violate US constitutional law. And if one truly reads religious scripture one will find that almost every religion is based on love and acceptance of others. Though a disaproval of homosexuallity can be found in the bible, if you read through the entire bible one will read countless more accounts of why society must love eachother than of how society must be against homosexuality.

Sorry for the length and the controversial topic, but I felt it needed to be said and I'd like to hear all y'alls oppinions on the issue.

We have a thread about this in this forum and it's prolly best to post your thoughts there, to try to avoid any arguments and things around our happyhappy General Chat

And yeah, I am a little bummed myself, but there's nothing I can do about it. Except for bitch, whine, piss and moan, of course
