Legion, this "we give lots of aid" bragging is rather ugly and in any case inaccurate. The US, like virtually all wealthy countries, only gives small amounts of aid versus its GDP and mostly targets it very poorly. The US for example gives about 0.1% of its GDP as aid, and a lot of that is military aid to places like Israel and Egypt. France mostly gives to its former colonies, Japan gives to groups that vote its way in international forums, Australia mostly gives to countries in its region - PNG and the Pacific. The US like most countries mostly gives aid bilaterally rather than multilaterally (through the World Bank) which means it isn't targeted as well as it could be if the WB recieved more directly. The internationally agreed upon UN target level for foreign aid is 0.8% of GDP and only the Scandinavian countries such as Denmark and Sweden go over that in foreign aid levels. The US does give, more or less on par with other wealthy nations, but it's not this astonishingly selfless and giving cornucopia of foriegn aid people often like to portray it as. |

Atma X- And how do you know I don't have a Secret or Top Secret Security Clearance? It's no one on this boards business if I have one or not either. (can you show at least a little more intellegents next time ) I think you meant intelligence* You're right though. I DO complete missions. You do not. I am not a bad ass. I'm not cool because I'm a soldier. In fact, I never really cared to shoot guns before I joined the army. In fact, I'm a combat Medic. I save lives. I didn't join the military to shoot guns and fly planes. I don't know everything that goes on. But I can promise you that I know alot more than you think you know. Although not everybody in the government is completely corrupt, so there is always someone who will release some information, and if you ever want to know at least some info of what's going on, you can do some research and learn as much as possible from the information that is provided (though you'll have to spend some time looking for it, it's not just going to appear all over the news and slap you in the face to wake you up whenever you get lazy ) Uhm... I don't have to look for anything. I get told things long before you even see it in the news. I know about soldiers who die before the news releases this. In fact, I've had to fold the flag for the crying family members 6 times. It's not pretty. It's not cool to shoot guns. I wish we didn't have to. |

Lunar: Actually, Bush *was* reading to children at the time of the attacks at a school. They showed on the news someone whispering in Bush's ear what had happened. I doubt he stayed too much longer after that, but you also can't spook out everyone by getting the hell out of there. Composure. |

@ Raistlin the Red Robed: Sorry for flaming you. Just a General thought: But anyway, the fact is that in this world, there's always going to be a lot of secrets, and it's only possible to know some of what's going on. There's going to be a lot of theories, and the truth about many of them will not be revealed except to very few people. (edited by Atma X on 11-05-04 09:40 AM) |

Who thinks that Bush is going to screw up the country even more? Also, will he ever get the troops out of Iraq?

No he will never get the troops out of Iraq. They'll have to become naturalized citizens.

Would you think Kerry would have done any better than Bush?

Kerry was going to take our inexperenced troops out and put in the more experienced. So to answer you question yes, he would have done much better than Bush.

Yeah I think Kerry would be much better than Bush as well. Yet another question: What would any of you think of having a woman for president?

I don't think it's a big deal. England had Margaret Thatcher and she seemed to work out fine in terms of toughness, but I know many people really didn't like her b/c of her party and the things it did. (I'm not that in on British politics so don't bother rebutting.) As long as you have the mental toughness and leadership, you can be president in my book.

I've no problem with women leaders, assuming that they stand as good and moral leaders. Thus far we have seen weak leaders of first world nations like Kim Campbell, or we see immoral monsters like Indira Gandhi. The same goes for men, the simple thing is, that voters are going to stick with the "traditional" candidate. Reasons like this are why men like Joe Liebermen haven't taken presidency yet, he is Jewish. Hell, it took damn near 2 centuries to get a Catholic into office with JFK. If it doesn't stick to the mainstream, people are afraid.

Sorry I took so long to respond Colleen, yes I know he was indeed reading to children when the event happened. I was simply making the point that many stories were concocted, so I wouldn't be surprised if others were. I think a woman for president would be awesome, as long as it's not...well. We'll see I guess. From what I hear, though, '08 is looking very much like Hillary Clinton and Julianno (forgive me if I spelled that wrong). Interesting, no? |

Julianno? You mean Giuliani? Former mayor of NY? I probably spelled it wrong too.

Yeah!!! I know I know, how could anyone mispell that right? First it was just a typo that I didn't catch till after it posted but I was already almost late to my midterm so I had to run. Then I was thinking and I couldn't remember if it was with a J or G. But yes, for clarification, former mayor of New York! |
