I've given the hack I'm making at the moment a temporary & absolute cheesy name of ' My First SMW Hack '

I haven't really done anything to main levels, Its the overworld I'm concerting on as of now as in this screenshot;



My intention is put all 7 seven castles into the smaller screens and save the main overworld for a HUGE World 8 but however, although I'm actually quite handy at doing overworlds, I've got a question about something thats bugging me as I'm trying to do it;

Ok, I will first mention I delected ALL the level spots & events from the overworld, except for the ones in Yoshi's Island ( which I modified to suit and had no problems. ) Now, the screen is from whats was formley the Forest of Illusion. Whenever I try to place a level spot to appear & I AM following the events correctly ( ie after you beat the first level in that part ) it WON'T appear until after I've left that overoworld and go back into it ( ie, it shows mario walking over to nothing ). I want to it appear straight away, how do I go about doing this?

place one of the level tiles that are transparent and set it to apear when a certain event happens. dont try to do it via layer 1 event mode, that only works good when the level is on some other screen, because like you said it won't show until you re-enter the overworld/sub-section

Thanks for that Vortex, I thought that diolouge concerning it had something to do with the specail exits!

Like I said, the names only temporary, until I can think of a better one.....

"My first SMW hack" sounds like an appliance from Sony. Other than that, the screenshot looks good.

I like the Submap so far but there are a few glitches that really need to be fixed:

1. The 'hills' that are just left of mario and the first level have no bottom. Fix that.
2. Right under the top of castle 5 there is something there. Whatever it is get rid of it.
3. For that water fall create a wall tile that can be placed beside it so it creates a black line around it. like this: | |
4. Please change the hills colour of the ones that are that lighter green. To me it doesn't look good.
5. WHY ARE THE WATER TILES UPSIDE DOWN!!! Please change that (easy mistake dont worry)
6. In the top right cornor I can see a bottom part of a cliff. However, when you look a bit left I can see water on both sides.

As soon as this stuff gets fixed, this submap will look VERY cool. When I first saw it it reminded me of a SMB3 submap.

I was wondering why the water was flowing upwards and not downwards!

well this looks great, i like the idea of a huge last world. if you fix the few things keikonium pointed out, it'll be next to perfect (nothing is perfect).

BTW, keikonium, look what number your last post in this tread was!

Sorry about the low JEPG quality, but my GIF converter took out one of the coluors!
I really like what I did here and I must add that today was really only my first time using a tile editor! ( I've edited sprites before when I was into fangaming ) Can anyone guess the the techno band who inspried the logo?



The First World all on its own, The Arron Islands, named after one of the coolest guys I know! It seems a little bit plain to me but I might change it a bit. Also note I edited the Map Mario sprite to have white gloves!



An updated and corrected version of the screenshot from my first post, now known as Marie Plains ( I'm going to naming the worlds after people I met in Lourdes in the summer as a youth helper and whom I'm still in contact with ) Also I edited the boo to make it look more agrressive.

What do you all think so far?

Edit: Just a qucik saying that I mispelt my friend's name in the first world, I ment for it to say Aaron Islands not Arron Islands!

--maybe you should bring down the top-right bottom of that cliff, just weird to see the minimum bottom
--'Arron Islands' is going to need a lot of work
--yoshi's house on top of that big hill is kind of neat

Overworlds are fun to edit but they take a lot of time to make a nice one. Keep it up. Now to go back to work on mine ;p

edit: and good news. I now claim the overworld 8x8 editing officially 95% complete. I have now finally begun the task of adding levels and events. First test sucessful! Everybody dance!

NHY: That update on the Marie Plains is 100% better. Just the water and the top right cliff bottom need to be changed. That ghost looks so cool good job. That title screen looks really good (I think that the fuzziness makes it look better but I can't judge cause I haven't seen the crisp version).

Arron Islands: Everything looks pretty good with this submap except for a few things:

1. Yoshi's house doesn't really look that great on the hill. Ii know they did that with a star in the original but to me it doesn't look that great (change or no change doesn't really matter)
2. the cliff bottom above that level in the water just looks odd. try to go with the curves of the top of the land but with water tiles. Tthe cliff bottom is flat while the top is curved. Make them the same. Everything else looks really good to me

BTW, is arron islands supposed to be the top of the cliffs from marie plains? If it is then you did a pretty good job doing it. The only thing is the right most cliff bottom in marie plains doesn't match up with anything in arron islands. Either get rid of the cliff bottom or make a small island in arron islands.

You did a VERY good job on these and I think if your levels are as good as the overworlds then your hack will be great! Excellent job

I like them overworlds But I must agree..those upside down water tiles are wierd.

I think I might as well as request Beta Testers at this stage in time, just to ensure I don't mess up too much!

Anyways, I'm looking for at least 1 willing person, who can give constructive critism of the hack for this postion, so please, no time wasters!

Its obvious to mention that Beta Testers will be mentioned in the credits for thier trouble and who knows, I might give them the full version a few days before everyone else!
