I was just wondering if anyone else had watched John Stewart on Crossfire, there are a few torrents and transcripts of the whole debacle floating around right now. In case you're unframiliar with the whole affair, John Stewart was a special guest on CNN's political "debate" show, Crossfire. Moderated this time by my two favorites of the show Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson, Stewart went against both Tucker and Paul's expectations of a light-hearted comedy hour and railed Tucker, Paul, CNN, and all networks in general. Stewart (rightly) accused shows like Crossfire of being nothing bigger than "Partisan Hackery". The tension escalated during the show until at one point John Stewart flat out called Carlson a "dick", at which point I almost burst into laughter and almost cried for the hilarity of it all. Honestly though, Stewart was right. Watching shows like Crossfire is just like watching any politician, or any member of Bush or Kerry's campaign lie through their teeth and paint unrealistic pictures of our country and the politicians in it. |

yah, totally and completely. the guy on the right is Tucker Carlson, and him and his famous bowtie got demolished . I actually really like Tucker Carlson a lot, probably one of the only Republican's you'll hear me say that about in any public place. and I was glad that Paul just seemed to stay out of this one, as he's my favorite democrat from the show. But enjoy the show as i do, and i watch is just about every day, i'll say again that stewart was correct in his assessment. I've turned into somewhat of a mainstream news and media junkie over the last few weeks. The reason, as i've explained to someone else? The drama. The drama and the tension between networks. Your Party offiliation (and you can only choose [D] or [R] beacuse this is mainstream) is your Team, and your Network is your Stadium. you can't find drama of this magnitude like the Scott Peterson trial, or Bill O'Reilly's alleged sex scandal on any other type of show. Why watch soap operas when you can get the real thing 24/7? |

Well, if any of you have ever read any books by political satirists (I.E. Al Franken <3), you'll find that everything involving politics is in some way biased. The O'Reilly Factor, Hannity and Colmes, everything on CNN, the list goes on. And it's not just the right wing either, it's the left too. The leftists have their own propaganda machines, like my earlier example, Al Franken. There's no way to be totally unbiased on issues because the second you take a neutral stance on anything, you get flamed by both sides.

OMg I haven't seen utter ownage like that in quite some time. As I was watching it I couldn't believe it was really happening. It's the kind of stuff I would tell those pundits were I to actually go on that sort of show.

Oh it is fucking beautiful. I am half amazed that they didn't shut the show off and go home, given how ardently he was trying to humiliate them. How did they last two commercial breaks with him?

It's a sad indictment on modern television that the most compelling and insightful punditry is on Comedy Central. Funny though. |

It's funny that of late the only candid commentary for the past two years I've seen was in fact the Daily Show. CNN = FoxNews = MSNBC = sissies.

LMAO! That was hilarious! He owned those guys. They kept trying to laugh off what he said, but he wouldn't let them (although he made plenty of jokes while doing so (edited by windwaker on 10-21-04 08:06 PM) |

In case anyone is wondering, I have a .wmv (about 35MB) of it. Ask me politely and you might get it. The fact that he was railing on them for just being a mere theater act was the highlight. If anything, Stewart reports more in his opening headlines than the 24-hour cable news networks. |

John Stewart reports more with his silly voices and perplexed facial expressions than those other shows do in their entire half hour. (edited by Arwon on 10-22-04 03:22 AM) |

I heard about this from my friends and have yet to watch it. Probably tomorrow at work, I'll watch it. It is ridiculously hilarious. anyways, that show will never be the same again, or will it... in other news, Jon Stewart is going to go on 60 minutes if I'm not mistaken |

In other other news, Jon Stewart's new book on "America: [something something] on Democracy Inaction" is hilarious... unfortunately, no, I can't remember the title, but the book itself is in my backpack right now... I won't spoil it... yet...

Crossfire is really boring, because there is not much difference in the policies of either American party. They talk about "social justice" from either a centre-right or right wing view. I like it when Jon Stewart gets out and really starts reckin' stuff up with something called common sense.

Yeah I heard about that on the radio today. KA-PWNT. I bet ratings dropped like a rock after Stewart went on and declared them lame. |
