I think the best way to go about importing custom music would be to use MOD files, since they're closer in format to SPCs than MIDIs are (in fact, there's a program called OpenSPC that converts SPCs into Impulse Tracker modules, and they sound virtually identical). I don't believe the MOD format is very complicated, and there are a several good, relatively easy-to-use MOD-editing tools available, such as the ModPlug Tracker.

MOD is, abstractly said, N-SPC with slightly more features, unlimited space and better sample quality. Therefore a slightly lossy conversion should be possible in some cases. @MajinBlueDragon, have to correct you... MIDI is polyphonic. kthx. The main difference between MIDI and SPC is the following: SPC Length=3 Volume=1 Tone C#3 Length=2 Volume=3 Tone D#3 Tone E3 MIDI Tone C#3 (length=3, volume=1) MIDI Tick MIDI Tick MIDI Tick Tone D#3 (length=2, volume=3) MIDI Tick MIDI Tick Tone E3 (length=2, volume=3) ^ I think that explains a lot. MIDI is event-based, while SPC is sequential. (both examples above are the same ... erm... yes... I'd call that melody ) ~ Blacky. |

OK, people, listen up. You can't import WAV, MP3, MIDI etc files into a game. MIDI could be possible if it were a very low-quality file, but like MBD said nobody would actually use those. MOD could be possible as it's similar to SPC, but not just any MOD file would work. The closest you can probably hope for is importing VERY SMALL WAV files for instruments, and composing tracks with them by hand. The SPC-700 is very limited (only 64K of memory, and part of that has to be used for sound effects, instruments, all the other songs, and the ASM code that plays them), and SMW's engine isn't very flexible either.

I didn't say polyphonic? eh, that's what I meant, but anyway I think you were refering to note velocity as opposed to note volume (midi command 7), which is always set with every note as well as the MIDI tick, while the volume is only set in the track properties and when a command is inserted into the event list.

Erm, I haven't actually messed with MIDIs yet... I only wanted to show the general difference in structure (the thing with the MIDI ticks)... but, yes... I meant the note velocity, since my English isn't yet advanced enough to be aware of words like that one. @HyperHacker, the longest instrument I have ever seen in an SPC dump was about 17k samples in length, meaning a bit more than half of a second with the SPC's sample rate of 32k/s. Original by MajinBlueDragon See. I sorts of wondered when I read that. |

Main reason for this is the downness of my provider () which also causes my alpha MMOG to be interpreted as Massive Multiplayer Offline Game. Sorry, but I haven't yet found any good one not being down (might try to ask jesp for a .wootest.net subdomain, but I doubt he will give me one). @Atma X, as far as I understood he wants to see someone's ass. Yet, I'm not sure whose. |

I'm guessing he either wants to know why blackhole89 says Tailsixs wants to see someone's ass, or where he can get the program. In the case that it's the second, I'm 99% sure it's not released yet. |

1. No, you can't. 2. If you are musically inclined enough to, then I should think so. 3. Why the hell did you bump this again? Once is bad enough. Now the thread will be closed. Nice goin'. |
