(I'm posting this thread to prevent this one from being completely hijacked; even though it's not too far off-topic in that thread, I still think this debate should have its own thread. Basically, it's a debate about certain physical traits of Mario and Yoshi, and also about whether or not certain games take place on Earth or Mushroom World. If you have anything to say about weird/funny things in Mario games that doesn't have anything to do with this debate, go to the aforementioned thread and post it there. My most recent post in that thread at this point has been quoted below.)

Sure they do, you just can't see them.

Erm...no, they don't. In the games in which those things happened, the main thing that would have stopped us from seeing these things was the camera angle. In Super Mario 64, the camera angle would not have stopped us from seeing them if they were there.

Also...about the low gravity thing...some games, like Super Mario 64, take place on Earth. You can tell because the trees look relatively normal. (compared to the trees in games that take place in Mushroom World)

Just because it looks similar to Earth doesn't mean it is.

Where else could that game have taken place? It certainly isn't Mushroom World because the trees in Mushroom World look totally different. (That's probably because Mushroom World has lower gravity than Earth.)

Super Mario 64 doesn't take place neither in Earth nor in Mushroom Kingdom (well, at least I think that is not Mushroom Kingdom). In Paper Mario you could get to Peach's Castle by walking north from Toad Town, which isn't in Earth. Probably, the only thing in Earth here is Mario's house (actually, in Paper Mario you had to go through a pipe in Mario's house for getting to Toad Town, which is full of strange things; that's what makes me think that Toad Town isn't in Earth, as well as Peach's Castle where Super Mario 64 took place).

Mario wore a different suit in Mario 64. That's also why he can't shoot fireballs.

BTW, several Mario games take place in neither Earth or the Mushroom World.

I can explain why the physical laws are different. It's a video game. Still, the game is designed to be like the real laws, but thanks to FuSoYa, who hacked Mario's code, Mario can jump very high, shoot fire when he gets a fire flower, fly when he gets a cape and so on, and thereby break the game's physical laws.

If the game physics was exacly like ours, the game wouldn't be as good.

hyperhacker: Expect for SSB and SSBM, name one of thoose names. Super mario land for example is in the "Mushroom world" just in a distant kingdom. That's why it's so diffrent...

Here's what I personally think:

In Mario's fictional universe, there's an interdimensional rip between Earth and Mushroom World. The reason why Mario can still jump high in games that take place on Earth is because, evidently, he just happens to be able to jump higher than a normal person. (as if that wasn't obvious...) Also, Mushroom World seems to have about half the gravity of Earth.

Mario's jumping abilities are almost normal in DK. They get a little greater in MB. they become "super" in SMB. I guess what we might be able to pull from this is that DK happed in the real world. MB happened on the edge of the Mushroom world and the real world (explaining the appearance of koopa troopas and possible interdimensional pipe travel)

Jesus Christ, guys, it's a video game. There's no way in hell it could take place on Earth, or I'd be running around at twice my height stepping on people and breathing atomic fire while a mob of Japanese citizens fled from my presence. Get over it.

Of course it can not happen. That's why we like Mario. The kingdom is not a place to science: this is a concept that almost doens't exists there, so it's possible to say that a place like this may be a other dimension. Dimensions are very different. I guess this is why the topic was created.

Heres my half asses theory... all mario games are made so u see the world the way Mario sees it, and the reason your able to jump so high, shoot fire, and see strange creatures is because mario is always on shrooms so basicly Mario can't really jump high, spit fire, fly, ride dinosaurs, etc. He only thinks he can because hes halucinating(spelling?)

This would explain why mario cant jump high in DK, since hes not on drugs
