It has been a while since I gave out an update for this... so here is an update.

Simple graphics edit, but the first graphics edit in Yoshi's Island.

1-5: Nightime Fields. I changed the palette because the poundable posts looked bad. Still changing the palette... I think the FG is too bright... what do you think?

1-6: Hey Hey, We're the Monkeys! Beginning.

More of 1-6.

1-7: Snow Day. As you can see, it is a snow level.

Skiing. It is short, but it works.

You "crash" at the end of the skiing.

Lakitu Cloud puzzle.

Mid-ring. Enter it, die, and...

...you end up here. I edited the midway point on this one.

Any comments or suggestions?

Tell me I'm wrong, but that looks like level SEVEN involves bouncing off penguins over a bottomless pit on skis. Bit early for something like that, don't you think?

Not necessarily. A good hack could also be moderately different but at the same level throughout the entire hack.

I agree...bouncing off the penguins looks too hard. First of all, they're too small to balance on with skis, and second, they fly back and forth, increasing the difficulty even more. Indubitably bound to be an irritating savestate fun-fest.

And change the FG color in 1-5, too bright (and you told me I had clashing colors ). Anyway, I recommend the FG palette from 5-7. I'm not quite sure what the value for that color is, but you can look that up yourself.

I thought the penguins at first would be too difficult, but after trying it out, I kept making it across a lot. Besides, that is the only time you do jump on the penguins while on the skis. They don't fly back and forth either. One moves to the left, the other to the right. That is by changing the X position. It works and isn't hard. Besides, if you see a tad bit before the jump, you could easily see it isn't hard.

GY: I will try out that palette. I hope it looks good...

Well...I'll be the judge on whether it's too hard or not . Like I've said before...hacks are always easiest for their creators.

if you do redo the palette in 1-5 leave the white area on the top of the grass because it makes it look like the moonlight is beeming down brightly... though the lower part of the grass i agree could be a bit darker

Well... I just got finished with 1-7 today. Here are the latest pics.

Snowball walking.

A small little puzzle dealing with ice blocks.

Ski lifts.

Start of 1-8. I like these graphics.

Now I have a question for anyone who can figure it out.

This is what I put down...

...and this is what I get. Yoshi dies when he enters the room. Now what I need to know is how do I have Yoshi appear and not die when he enters the level?

Keikonium: The snowball's a major part of making your way through the first part of one of the snow levels. You probably just forgot about it.

You have every climate imaginable for the first world? Ehhhh, I don't think that'll go over too well. The levels themselves look pretty good though.

I don't think that too many climates in one world is a problem. Since it is just a demo, cpu can show his ability to make a good variety of levels in just one world. Heck, I have one level in my YI hack that is grass, lava cave, and a snowy land all in one. I certainly didn't forget to address this zanyness, as the name of that level is "Land of Wacky Climates". Good job cpu, don't listen to him.

The next part in 1-8. Palette and background pending. Note that placing down the ghosts were a lot harder than they seem to be.
Just to add one row of them, you have to put the sprite (105 or 106) on an odd Y coordinate, place down objects 43 and another object, put two of those sprites evenly apart, and test to see if it works. Very confusing on how this game is programmed...

It is looking excellent!

And cpu, that sky/stars BG pallete of the ice level rock, they fit very well with the night/ice theme.

The snowball idea is great too.

Heian-794: They are in the original game. They are a layer 3 object. It is used in one of the snow levels also... forget which one...

Recent update... again...

New palette and background. I like this palette a lot.

A few castle walls and a ledge. I quickly snapped this shot, so that explains why I am falling to the ground.
