Yep, It's me, with more problems.

That little Automatic Updates thing is bugging me to install updates. It says it requires to accept a EULA. I'm suspecting this is SP2, so I want to know: Should I download it? Is it worth it?

I have DSL, so the download's not the problem. It's the pack itself.

Some people were experiencing major problems with Service Pack 2, other ones had no issue at all.

I got my new computer with Windows XP Home days ago and installed SP2 offline from a CD, then added the newer downloads via WindowsUpdate (the only reason to keep IE on my computer ... ).

Except the fact, that the guard of my virus scanner (AntiVir - aso available in English on http://www.free-av.com/) sometimes doesn't work; though the virus scanner and the internet updater works correctly - I have no problems with SP2

But I don't trust the new security center ... I installed Sygate Personal Firewall and AntiVir and disabled it fully.
People using Emule, Kazaa might also be annoyed, since SP2 reduced the number of simulatnous connections/packets and you might download from fewer sources than usual.

But doesn't affect me; I try to keep my system up to date and have no major problems with SP2.

Before you install it: BACKUP YOUR SYTEM OR MOST IMPORTANT FILES.
So if it fails, simply backup it, only download SP1 plus all majof fixes .. it also should work

I'm one of the major problems people. My computer completely stopped working after installing SP2. (The guy at the computer repair place said that SP2 wasn't even supposed to be released through Windows Update).

So... definately back up things.

Oh god, SP2 was a huge problem for me. It wouldn't properly download and said the package was corrupt, and next time I started up my computer I got boot screen looping and had to reformat. Ugh.

First of all, those dumb grammar mistakes in my post came due to my wireless keyboard ... the batteries were low and I forgot/mixed some letters

As for SP2, maybe creating a slipstreamed CD with the original Win XP installation disc might help. So it installs the operating system and with it Service Pack 2.
Maybe that explains why it runs very stable at least for these three days for me (fresh system plus SP2) ... I even can get stuff like Daemon Tools working without any problems

My mother installed SP2 thanks to Windows update. That's why you shouldn't leave a computer alone with her, but then I got no problem. Sure the firewall did bugger me, but it's better than nothing for the cheap people. And Windows tries to insist getting a anti-virus program.

I have honestly not noticed any perfomance diffrences. I did notice that explorer.exe took less memory than before but not noticeable much. And there is news in IE, but I use Firefox so...

I had no software problems yet, it did warn me once to run a malicous program (which was a home-made Visual basic program xD). But everything works as it should. I say do it if you dare. Better take a backup thought... (I did that before restarting the computer after my mom installed SP2 by "mistake" )

I'm not in any hurry to download SP2. I've seen it working on some machines, and I've seen it utterly break others.

If I were to install SP2, it would be after I'd ghosted my machine, so I had a restore point to come back to if SP2 were to bork the system.

It does add a level of security to IE, but from what I hear, it is too little, too late...

Well crap. I just got up, booted the computer, and noticed that the boot screen is different. I right-click on My Computer once I've logged in, and now it says my computer has SP2. My dad must have installed it last night. I've tested some apps and games, they seem to work fine. I'll see if my control freak dad will let me disable Windows Firewall. We already have a McAfee Firewall.

IIf the Windows firewall is already switched on, turn it off and rely on your other personal firewall (McAffee) ...

Two firewalls are useless, more standing in their way than being useful
As stated above, I turned Windows Security Center off ... I think Sygate and an up to date AntiVir plus caution not to open every file/mail attachment and Windows auto-updating are enough
