I've been messing with my brother's 486 to play old games. Most of these games can't identify to sound card. For example, if I play Transport Tycoon, it works fine if I pick the Sound Blaster option for sound, and Sound Blaster/Adlib FM for music. The problem is, in the game it doesn't play sound. The game's sound volume is all the way up. The sound card is an odd brand. It identifys itself as a "Voyetra Sound 144AM". What sound card is an equivalent of this in DOS programs and games?

Odd brands like that generally need special DOS drivers to provide Sound Blaster compatibility (or the right settings in autoexec.bat). Have you tried doing a Google search for drivers and/or info?

Have you tried to play the game in pure DOS mode? Becuse I know from experince that the orginal Transport Tycoon for some reason refuse to play sounds, not musics whenever it's playing in Windows.

Most sound cards back then was Sound blaster combitable, so test it in pure dos mode. (press F8 when "Starting Windows95" is shown and choose DOS)

Another choice you could take is finding the Windows version of TT, There is a Transport tycoon deluxe for Windows.

I don't run any DOS apps in Windows (it's 3.11 for Workgroups, BTW), and always exit into DOS. But I'll be looking for more info on this sound card. That's what we got for buying a cheap pc...

EDIT: Damnit! I spent a long while looking and only found serial numbers for Voyetra Sound Station or something. I'll keep looking.

I went through this before trying to find DOS drivers for a generic one I had. I never could find ones that WORKED. I eventually bought a SB16 ISA for $10.
