1. The cape is magical. He got it in an unknown quest...

2. Special clothes which never gets dirty...

Of course they have to wear their original clothes. Imagine Mario or Peach with new clothes... What would those look like? Blue, black, white eh...

Uh...they'd probably look like palette-shifted versions of the regular ones.

The clothes thing is more of a Cartoon thing... most cartoons that wear clothes never get to change 'em because it simplifies the animation... animators can use frames drawn on earlier episodes or just use a single character 'model + skin' in case of 3D cartoons... it saves up moneys!

I know, that would be very stupid... "Mario's clothes just became grey!"... Anyway, I thought about NEW clothes, not only palette change....

That would be interesting...although if it wouldn't be done with palette shifting I'm not sure how they would implement that.

Let me try to explain some of this without resorting to "Mario's high on shrooms".

-Mushroom make you big?
Supervitamins.

-Mushrooms give go-karts speed boosts?
The mushrooms in Mario Kart are actually little tanks of nitro. You dump them in and WHOO!

-WTF is bowser?
A mutant turtle/dinosaur. Duh.

-Jumping on an axe kills him?
No, you cut the bridge's support wires with it. Couldn't you see it falling?

-Fire-spitting plants?
Hey, there's blood-squirting lizards. I really wouldn't be surprised to see something like this in real life.

-Eyes on everything?
Grafitti.

-Things float?
The Mushroom Kingdom has low gravity. How do you think Mario jumps so high?

-Warp pipes?
Just pipes connected underground. The game doesn't show the boring process of Mario walking through them.

-Bowser changes?
Still mutating. Or he has some sort of chemical lab.

-Racoon tails allow flight?
By acting as a propeller in the low-gravity environment.

-Mario comes back?
It's actually a clone army. They just send out another one. They need green mushrooms to fuel the cloning machine, though. You can buy them for 100 coins.

-Time kills him?
Not much oxygen. He's holding his breath.

-Leaves = racoon tails?
Mario has a tail, but it takes the nutrients in the leaves to make it moveable.

-What's up with Yoshi?
He's a dinosaur. What did you think?

-Super Mario Bros 2 wasn't an actual Mario game?
In Japan it was Doki Doki Panic and not related to Mario. Nintendo Mario-ized it to sell better.

-"Goomba"?
Hey, it's a fun word.

-Why all the coins in ? blocks?
They're Bowser's stash. He wanted to make sure that whenever he needed cash, he wouldn't have to go too far for it. (He's not that bright. )

-Flowers = ability to shoot fire?
When crushed they make great flamethrower fuel.

-Stars = invincibility?
They surround you with a powerful electrical field, but it dissipates quickly.

-Clouds you can walk on?
They're covering floating platforms.

-Doomships?
It's a ship. It flies. It has cannons. What's to explain?

-The weird enemies?
Bowser's mutated underlings.

-Why lower the flag?
That's what you do when you conquer someone! You swap their flag with yours as a symbol of victory!

-Caps transform you?
Very technologically advanced caps. The game's Japanese, after all.

-Turtles come out of shells without dying?
These aren't ordinary turtles. They can live shell-less.

-Baby Bowser had a big head?
So?

-The question mark on ? blocks disappears?
They're electronic. Once you empty them the light turns off.

-Coin-creating coins?
They're actually a whole lot of coins folded up together. The game's 2D, so you can't see how thick they are.

-Yoshi can eat just about anything?
He has thick skin and a really strong stomach.

-Goombas enjoy jumping around in giant windup shoes?
WHO DOESN'T?

-Touching goombas kills you?
They're covered in poison.

-Koopas wear white t-shirts?
Yeah... What about them?

-The cast on the title of Mario Advance is constipated?
They're pulling really hard. Plus, they look like they have to pee, not the other thing.

-Mid-air direction changing?
With the low gravity, you can easily propel yourself in another direction.

-Eating berries gives you coins?
Coins are stashed in the berries.

-Mario can breathe underwater?
As mentioned before, he's holding his breath the whole time. He's just really good at it.

-Pipes are people-sized?
Transport tunnel pipes, yes.

-Yoshi can turn things into fireballs and grow wings?
He has wings but like Mario's tail, only certain nutrients activate them. The fireballs are just a bad case of heartburn.

-Holes you fall into and die?
Booby (tee hee) traps. There's spikes/lava at the bottom.

-SMB2 was a dream?
OMFG SPOILER! Besides, what's weird about that? I've had crazy dreams too.

-Racoon Mario can turn into a statue?
A special feature of his incredible suit, but you need to press 3 buttons at once to activate it, so he can only do it when he can move his tail.

-Capes let you fly?
Low gravity + aerodynamics = fun!

-Mario's head almost completely disappears when he ducks?
He ducks really low.

-Nobody changes their clothes?
Who needs to? They're fire-resistant, waterproof, temperature-regulated mech suits that don't get dirty. (They even have built-in heaters and AC, hence the temperature regulation.)

Another thing...
What's with all the shitcycles?

@ Hyperhacker: Erm...Mario normally doesn't have a tail, and Yoshies don't normally have wings. Also...about the low gravity thing...some games, like Super Mario 64, take place on Earth. You can tell because the trees look relatively normal. (compared to the trees in games that take place in Mushroom World)

He was assuming things..... and obliously making statements that would be facts in Mario's world.

Congratulations HyperHacker you just explained SMB Physics, Pataphysics, Biology, Chemistry and every other science that can be considered within the mario bros. games.

Now I can 'C-jump' without scratching my head asking 'how the hell he did that!?'

I remember reading at one point, either in a coloring book or likewise, that boswer turned the mushroom people into various bricks and background trees. did anybody else ever hear that?

Uh...no. That doesn't make any sense. Why would Mario be given points for slamming his head into his own people after they had been turned into bricks?

got me. but it said bowser used his black magic to turn the mushrooms into bricks and "horsehair plants". it was accompanied with a picture of bowser shooting energy from his hands at toad/toads.

I'm guessing the coloring book was not directly affilitated with Nintendo, thus taking a few ignorant liberties. But the artwork in the coloring book was identical to that of the early artwork for SMB.

I found an image of the cover, only mine was in english.

Sure they do, you just can't see them.

Just because it looks similar to Earth doesn't mean it is.

I read something about this time ago in a Gamefaqs Super Mario Bros. FAQ (don't remember who's one). It said that Bowser turned the Mushroom Kingdom citizens in bricks, coins, Goombas, Koopa Troopas and every other enemy.

Erm...no, they don't. In the games in which those things happened, the main thing that would have stopped us from seeing these things was the camera angle. In Super Mario 64, the camera angle would not have stopped us from seeing them if they were there.

Where else could that game have taken place? It certainly isn't Mushroom World because the trees in Mushroom World look totally different. (That's probably because Mushroom World has lower gravity than Earth.)

(edit: I'm going to post another thread for this debate before it completely hijacks this one.)
(another edit: Please continue the debate here.)

(edit again: If you find anything weird or funny about the Super Mario series that doesn't have anything to do with that debate, feel free to post it in this topic.)

Hmmm.... why doesn't Peach just fire Toad? He and the others obviously don't do a good enough job protecting her.

If Peach fired Toad and the others, she wouldn't be able to replace them with anyone except for other people just like them.
