I've got connection problems with Bit Torrent. I'm set up in my uni halls of residense with a fast connection, so the router in the basement isn't owned by me. Of course, if I try to screw about with advancing port numbers to my PC, they're going to get really pissed off and besides, I doubt I'd be able to do this anyway. All my downloads are stuck at Dialup speeds despite being connected for a whole afternoon. Is there any other way that I can make bit torrent realise that I'm not leaching and improve my download speeds? |

Bit Torrent doesn't work like that. (IIRC) Your download speed depends on the actual number of seeders you have, not on how much you share. |

And torrents with dial-up speed are pretty common. Hell I have a problematic router but I still reach my max speed, but mostly it's around dial-up speed. Which torrents does this happen on? The ones you use maybe not have enough seeders... |

actually, what i believe is the case is that the router is firewalled. Does the indicator of your client ever turn green? if it never turns green, then you are firewalled. unless you poke holes in that firewall, there isn't anything you can do. torrents with dial-up speed are common if and only if the people you downloading from have crappy connections. I'm using a university class connection and I never have dial-up speeds... |

My connected seeds total 8 or 9. The indicator never turns green and I managed to get a high of 30kb/s earlier, but most of the time it's lower than 5kb/s.

yup, you are firewalled, definately firewalled. When I'm at my friend's place and I use his wireless router, unless he pokes holes in it for bittorrent, I get the same results like yours.

I'm ok for the time being, I guess. I can download about 400mb in a day if I leave BitTorrent to it's own devices, and I think I'm happy with that |
