Lemuria/Sirius B - Therion's new double disc set was simply killer and probably the best thing I've heard for a good while, but let us not discount good old Canadia. The new Goat Horn album, Storming the Gates, kicked total ass as well as Dayglo Abortions' Holy Shiite.

Odd co-incidence, maybe this happens to me, but if you don't like a band or don't listen to them...You generally don't talk about them. I mean, maybe it is just me, but I try to forget about crappy bands like Cradle of Filth and not talk about them too much.

And how I enjoy Cradle of Filth. Very good songwriting, and I like Dani's transitions from black to death vocals.

Looking forward to their new album. I think it's already been released.

Ive never heard of any of these bands you guys are talking about. Ive only heard of Franz, Ash, and a few others. I need to research more.

Well, I only bought a few albums this year, moneys getting tight, the last I bought was American Idiot. But I don't think its Album of the Year worthy. But Id agree that Kanye's College Dropout is a great album and great debut.

Green Day - American Idiot.
I LOVE this cd, it's the only thing Ive listened to since it came out last week, and Im not getting sick of it. Great lyrics on all the songs, Im definitely impressed.

I also like Room on Fire by The Strokes, which I recently picked up.

Can't say I've ever paid attention to Green Day, or that I'd enjoy them if I did...but I like their idea of releasing blank CD-Rs that have the same artwork as all their major albums. It's supposedly for those people who buy the music as MP3s and want to burn their own hard copies and have them look nice, but it'd also be nice to burn a copy for a friend or what have you. Either way, I think it's nifty.

And maybe they'll have it so you can purchase the CD insert and back cover, to make it look really professional. That would be cool. Maybe just have downloadable pictures of the artwork too, for those who want to print it out themselves on crude paper or fancy stuff, and have that available. Would be neat...

Scrolling through my Ipod I find the following good albums from 2004:

90 Day Men - Panda Park
Air - Talkie Walkie
Animal Collective - Sung Tongs
David Byrne - Grown Backwards
the Dissappointments - Making Merry with...
Les Savy Fav - Inches
Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News
TV On The Radio - Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes

So those'd be my favourites, since they're about the only albums released this year I've actually listened to very much. Still not sure about 'Good News' - a lot of it sounds rather awkward and forced and halfassed amd just not as good as the previous 2 or 3 albums.

David Byrne's new one, I only have half of, in MP3 format, but it's a really strong set of songs from an old master whom I happen to nearly worship. It is amazing how well the man has aged, when you consider the devolution of so many other artists in their latter years.

Les Savy Fav continue to improve with every release. Pure balls-out energetic rock, yet still manages to sound original and interesting. Absolutely can't bloody wait for their tour down here in November and see that big bald shirtless man get all sweaty and crazy.

Apart from those, Animal Collective and Air both grabbed and held my attention pretty damn quickly, and the 90 Day Men (semi-obscure San Diego band), for the second or third time, managed to sound like a completely different band to their previous albums.

Not too shabby a year, really.

I haven't really listened to anything that was released this year (Though, I do have about 20 releases from 2003).

Since I haven't heard anything from this year... I'm really looking forward to Yyrkoon's and Oathean's new releases (Not sure if they are out not or yet).

I also like the two or three songs I heard from the new Modest Mouse ablum.

A lot of people have mentioned "American Idiot". Now I admit, I've heard a bit of this, but I can't say it's really "great".

It has it's very catchy moments, yes, it's rather enjoyable to listen to, but.... it's nothing special. Am I missing something?

Still think that the John Butler Trio are good, oh how I wish I had the words to describe how good their stuff is. Their album is great. Course, I think I still prefer their previous album more, but then I'm more used to it -- it's like a pair of fuzzy warm slippers for me now.

Well, there was a lot that came out this year... uhm, Sparta's got some good shit going with Porcelain, and... ooh, hang on. I gotta take this.

(steps off)

Uhm, McLusky says this conversation ends with The Difference Between Me And You Is That I'm Not On Fire.

Oh, and if reissues count, the rerelease of Modest Mouse's "The Moon And Antarctica" craps all over their new one.

Well fuck, if we're counting reissues, Black Box: The Complete Original Black Sabbath 1970-1978 craps on EVERYTHING. So much gold there. Its the first time I've ever truly paid attention to Sabbath and their Ozzy-era albums. One thing I definitely never knew before is that Geezer writes near all the lyrics. Coooool.
