I am visiting my uncle here in the Big Apple, and it's not as worm-ridden as I would have assumed. Every other metropolitan center I've set foot in has been vaguely repulsive to my character, despite my best hopes and wishes to the contrary. And let's face it: people in New York notoriously view this city as the civilized center of the free world, and everywhere else in the country as a backwater province thereof.

But that doesn't seem to be the case. People are nice, they make EYE CONTACT, they smile at you on the street, the public transportation runs smoothly and relatively effeciently, and even the traffic seems to accomodate itself with almost friendly constant honking. Central Park is beautiful, every building is an edifice to the wonder of man's acheivement, and even the bum-dung doesn't stink up the atmosphere!!!

I'm digging it, to say the least. So, is anyone here from New York? Anybody think it sucks? I'm open to ideas. I just wanna know some feedback on what your opinions of the city are. Any bad or wonderful experiences?

Glad to hear that you are having fun.

Visting NY is one of the things I really want to do in my life. Especially hitting a few plays on Broadway.

I live close to New York from the wast side of CT, in fact, I've been on a 5th grade school field trip to a Museum in New York City years ago, but yeah, New York is full of beauty, as I've seen Manhatten, but didn't go to though.

Edit: fixed grammar, sorry.

My friend was going to go to NYC during Easter Break on a school field trip... but her parents forbade it since the kids "weren't going to be supervised enough".

I went in Grade 9, so long before 9/11. Seemed like a nice place although the street bums were a lot ruder than the ones in Montreal.

Barcelon, Moscow, Montreal, Paris, Hellsinki, Stockholm, Oslo, Iceland and finally Naples are the places I want to love.

New York is amazing at night, I saw it from 10'000 feet in the air, it spreads across the land like a fire. The lights of Manhattan shine really nice.

But, personally, Buffalo and Toronto looked nicer <.<

All my family is from Detroit, and that seems to be one of the worst cities...the suburbs are fine, but avoid the inner city at all costs. Although ANY city is better than where I live now.

Well my impressions after living there for about 5 years were that new yorkers are stuck up assholes who are 100% against human contact in public places, who think only about things in terms of money, and nobody lives there unless they're pretty rich and have no kids...

It's a good city to go to when you go there as a tourist, but living there is hell. One of the true urban jungles.

My girlfriend and I go to NYC every year around Christmastime. It's a tradition, since that's where we first hooked up..

Well, okay, we've only done it twice, since we've been together for over a year, but yea. If anyone knows how to go ice skating in Rockefeller Center without standing in line for 6 hours, please inform me.

I always thought it would be totally badass to visit the New York Stock Exchange and to go see Wrestlemania at Madison Square Garden.

Both place filled with madness.

I'm not sure if I would like to live there, though. Sure, I like city life, but it's very crowded there and the rent is really high, or so I've heard.

He speaks the truth. And, having lived in New York all my life, I would know Honestly, the taxes and government suck here, including the hardest education system in the entire US (We're the only ones left that have the Regents examinations). Get out while you can, or else BLOOMBERG WILL ATTACK.

And it's Long Ayland (phonetically). We also plan on seceding from New York and becoming our own state. A few mottos we thought of were:

Welcome to Long Island: Now go home.

Welcome to Long Island: Don't we talk funny, or what?

Welcome to Long Island: Home to preppie shitbags since 1954!

Welcome to Long Island: It's just farms.

Wow I've always pictured New York City as a dump that smelled, with bums laying everywhere with newspaper also very dirty and people are stuck up. I think you have to live there to experience the other side of it but I would like to visit it one day. That would be fun. Just to experience being there myself.
