Yeah, but we've seen what happens to certain types of encryption... *glances at all the CPS-2 roms* |

You guys are idiots the nds allready came out it has been out for almost 2 months so who cares if he is trying to make an ds emulator on the computer they did it with snes, nes, gba and other why not this one huh huh thats right.

...apparently I love when people talk about thigns they reallly don't know. Now the biggest problem with the DS emulation is the two screens. Althought I do wonder if there have been any progress on a emulator. Not like we need one right now anyway, I would want one for hacking and devoloping. But since I have no DS myself... DS gotta be one of thoose systems that your better off with the real things anyway. |

Yeah, whats really gonna slow down emulator creation will be the compression(there has to be something atleast, so small a cartridge, yet awesome gfx and stuff), 2 screens, and one of them a touch screen. other then that I would say its smooth sailing after all the hard unpleasent stuff.

It's been proven that DS games can EASILY be dumped, and they contain a filebase (IE, it isn't one file filled with raw data, like other ROMs), making some parts of emulator creation harder, others easier.

*ignores post from the peanut gallery* It'll be interesting to see how much CPU power is required for both screens. I'm sure that current systems can emulate it just fine but it'll be interesting to see how the authors go around it. I didn't know that the DS roms use a filebase. Interesting... that'll throw a few kinks into the workings. |

If it's based off of anything like GBA emulation...it might be okay...but if it's anything like N64 emulation... ... ... Only reason I bring N64 up is because it may very well be based off of those types of graphics, I mean does anyone know the color depth that a DS can go up to? |

Heh, well... considering that most games runs quite slow in N64 emulators. Expect for SM64... Well, if the DS uses a filesystem. That could make hacking easier in a way even. If they game uses a seperate file for the textures and so on... >.> Touch screen emulating isn't hard thought, just use the mouse instead for the finger/stylus. |

They might run slow if you have a SLOW system, but all of my N64 roms run just fine when I play them. The emulation standard isn't THAT low.

I really don't see why people think having 2 screens will make it difficult. That just means having to create 2 windows. Touch-screen should be easy to emulate with the mouse. The only real problem is the CPU power and rather obscure cart format. Really, I'm not concerned about an emulator so much as a flash cart, even if it's not big enough for any commercial games. I wanna take advantage of all that power for stuff Nintendo can't/won't do, like emulators, PDAs, and slightly-less-than-legal tone generators. Plus I'm quite intriuged about the hardware itself. It looks like just about everything can be controlled via software, which I really like the sound of. (Notice how toggling the backlight, booting a GBA game, etc is all software-controlled; sleep mode can be disabled, etc.) What I wonder is how the carts themselves work. Are they just like smaller GBA carts, or some new format? It'd be really neat if they really were the same sort of thing as those flash cards used in digital cameras, especially if the entire cart was rewriteable. (Though that could be dangerous, both to Nintendo (easier piracy) and the players (possibility of having the whole game wiped out). But it seems easier to make the whole thing one re-writeable chip than to try to fit both a ROM and an EEPROM/SRAM/whatever in there.) |

The point is to delete the link upon sight. If person A posts a warez link and 10 people click on it, then we can't start slapping them all around for doing so. At the same time, it's against board rules so it's pretty much a KOS offence. |
