Yiffy Kitten, it was because his CSS were down. We have never ever banned someone for their hosts being down (which coincidentally is my host in this case). You should warn people before banning them. Especially for something like this. And, uh, he did capitalize, he did use punctuation. Homonymns is a 'problem' with alot of people on the board, even those from America, have we ever 'attacked' them for that? No.
And something you should know, not everyone is on 24/7, so how the heck could he know exactly when the server was down? Alarm clock? Premonitions?
If you're gonna keep banning for stupid reasons, I'm gonna keep unbanning. So, 'some advice, WARN FIRST. Oh and make sure you have good grounds for it. Host being down isn't. Now hopefully this won't be the case anymore since Erkdog has kindly offered to host boardmembers. You are far too agressive for your own good.

What Jizuko said.

There's a super hyper efficient way to be able to read his posts if his host is down, and that is to turn off layouts. If his layout was bad enough to qualify a warning, you may remove it and warn him, but it's perfectly legible. Unless it breaks one of the rules of the board very, very, very badly, you should not be able to be banned because of your layout. Same goes for one's bio, one's title or, why the hell not, one's posts.

Oh, I can make you change your mind about that.

Very quickly.

1) As I said, MAKE IT READABLE when the server is down, to resolve said problem. As it is, his is the ONLY one that is NOT LEGIBLE when the CSS host is down.
2) Ref, the several cases of "ill" in his post (is he sick?). Also, sentence #3 is a run-on. There are more but I don't want to be a grammar Nazi. I just want to say, "If you're going to insult me, please do so intelligently." That is all.

As I said, how can he know when the server is down? How can he know how long the server will be down? What you can do, as an admin, if you find it so irritably and can't wait for the host to get up, or even warn the person in question to ask them to do it (BEFORE YOU BAN THEM), is to delete the error (css linking), or the whole layout. Preferably, warn them. Or heck, I don't know, buy some patience at nearest wal-mart?

About the grammar or whatnot, you are being a grammar nazi. His 'problems' is something people very rarely complain about. It's just being nitpicky when you don't have anything else to get across. And if you're going to insult someone, make sure you got grounds for it. That goes for banning too. Someone not using ', caring about what a "run-on sentence" is. And not knowing when a server is down or when it will be up again, is not.

1) Fair point.

2) If you're going to ban people based on grammar in addition to previous offenses, you'll have a backlog lasting you until February before you get to Sion.

He doesn't need CSS for a font color when all he can do is <font color=#000000/black>. HTML is there for a reason.

You don't understand what Yiffy Kitten said.

It's okay if his server goes down so long as the post is still intelligible (albiet not pretty) and readable when the server is down. When it becomes a huge fucking white square, that becomes a problem.

Cymoro has the right idea.

Cymoro, so when having almost everything in the css, the links, the blockquotes the racks. You should put the font, in non-css form just out of the file? Great idea. How about we start tables with chairs or something. Standards are there for a reason too.

witeasprinwow, yes I do understand, fact is that no one has ever been banned (or warned for that matter) for having their post unreadable during a time when their host is down. Take for example Colleen's old layout, when wootest went down it would display white on whitegreen. You had to select his posts, annoying? Yes, did anyone do anything? No. It was okay, you just had to have patience.

...So you're saying that, you cant put a line of HTML in a CSS layout, because that's not "standard"?

Frankly, what the fuck is that? That's completely illogical. It's a standard, not an absolute. Just add a little something that will make it appear black-on-white when the server is down.

I understand nobody's been banned just for a bad layout, but that's a logical fallacy. What we did in the past isn't always what we should be doing in the future.

And I understand you can highlight it, but why do it that way?

No, I'm saying why should you when you can do it better? The only reason this happened was because of the host being down. Why not just do it the way it's supposed to be done instead of mixing. Css contains the styles, hence the name, the style for the text, links and so forth. Why rip something out and write it completely different? Fortunately, we won't have to deal with this problem with the new hosting supplied for the board. We can make layouts better, and yes, there is a better and a worse in coding context.

Edit: Would you punish someone for something out of their hands? As I said, how can every person that has something hosted on a different server know when it's supposed to go down?
You can highlight during the duration of the downtime of the host. The person in question probably never posts in every thread you watch anyway. Patience is a virtue. But if the host is down for a longer period of time AND the user notices it, they can and should remove the linking. This can also be done by an admin. But no, no warnings or bannings unless the user refuses to take it out and/or puts it back all the time.

You make this seem like putting font color=whatever at before the css code (Which would work in 99% of the situations I can think up) like a bigger deal than it really is. Any new font code will get override the first one, if I remember correctly.

And I know there's a better and worse in coding, I've done C++ and had to look over other student's code and seen how much of a bitch it can be to sort through (Even your own code gets confusing at times)... But this isn't asking much.

All I'm saying is "Why the hell not?" as it seems to be a very simple task.

4) HOW THE FUCK YOUR OWN LAYOUT (doesn't) RENDER

If your layout is a huge piece of shit (which yours is) or hosted on a server that sucks monkey balls and is down more than up (which yours is), then I suggest you make it READABLE WHEN SAID SERVER IS DOWN. Ignorance is bliss, you must be with W. in Never-Never Land.

Edit your posts, and fix or remove the layout, or I WILL ban you again.

You should apologize to him for wrongfully accusing him.
I made that layout. I host it. I don't think it's a huge piece of shit. I like being able to define more than just my fontcolor, and since Sion's previous layout was fucked up bigtime, I offered to help him with it.
I don't see how posting screens of the CSS not loading due to my host being down is proving any point. It's the same like telling people red x's are annoying and a banable offense.
My host has been unstable the past few nights, but it tends to get back working when it's daytime for us. Which you probably never get to see.
Due to a lack of time on my part and Sion living in a different imezone, I haven't been able to fully make his layout in CSS and help him get it into his profile (the board is a bit weird with spaces in style definitions)
As far as I know, the standard way of dealing with bad layouts is to remove them and pm the user about it. If you wish to continue on with your little crusade, feel free to ban me. Atleast you're banning the right person then.

edit: forgot to remove a blockquote tag :-/
edit again: I removed the wrong one <<;

I agree with Sofie that banning him was a step overboard, though.

So, Legion, what's our new topic?

I just thought it was kind of ironic that a thread about the "good old days" of the board erupts into a bickering match.

New topic: "I had to beat him to death with his own shoes."

Discuss.

Erm...I think that was sometime around when Yiffy Kitten posted those shots of Sion's layout not working properly when the host was down.
