When I leave my computer alone for a long time I get these Messenger Service pop ups, they dont look like regular pop ups though, so how do I get rid of them?

Open the Control panel look for "admin tools", in admin tools select services. Look up the service messenger right click and choose "stop".

I have done this a few times during the network classes, my classmates kept abusing net send.

You really should leave that off, not only do people spam with it, but it contains some nasty security holes. (I'm amazed your ISP hasn't blocked it though.)

More like, I'm amazed that was still on. I thought they have that auto-shutoff now if you have your Windows updated from WindowsUpdate.

Yea you'll definitely want to keep that off at all time. Other than advertising...I don't see the point of that addition to Windows.

I believe that it was intended as a way for network administrators send important messages to users on a network. For example, a message could be sent out instructing users to save their work before a file server is taken down for maintenance. In fact, that is exactly the kind of thing that I have seen it used for, excluding spam and chat.

I think I should create a new thread for this but it may be best here. First of all, it didnt work I still got messages, I say did becuase my computer is now for lack of a better word "screwed" Heres the story if your willing to listen...

I left my computer on Wednesday running perfectly, I had even run Ad-Aware before I signed off just to be on the safe side. I came back from school on Thursday and found over 8 strange short cuts , there were also some crazy programs installed and I was getting pop ups like crazy. So I tried to get rid of as much as I could, but after deleting a few things I got this message that says Windows will shut down and it gives me like 50 seconds, now when ever I do ANYTHING ill get this message, so basically my computer doesnt work anymore.

Now heres the wierd the part I got fed up and decided to reformat, it went through the whole reformatting process and when I logged back on guess what? NOTHING CHANGED! Everything was still there and everything was still screwed up.

My brother and mother were the only ones on the computer that day and according to them they "didnt do anything". Im going try to reformat again today but I doubt it will work.

If your wondering how Im posting Im at school right now.

Did you install the RPC patch? There's a few viruses that can get you any time you connect to the Internet if you haven't, and they do that "shutdown in 60 seconds" thing. You may have even caught one right after reformatting.
When the shutdown message appears, go into DOS (start -> run -> cmd.exe) and type "shutdown -a", or set the clock back a year or two. Then go to microsoft.com, just search for "blaster" and you should find the patch.
