Ok, I figured this needed to be brought up. Before anyone asks if there's a game editor, try doing a bit of research. http://www.zophar.net http://www.romhacking.com http://www.dragoneyestudios.net http://www.cg-games.net are your best chances of getting any editor of any game out there. If those don't have what you're looking for, then try Google. If all else fails, look for hacks of the game you're looking for. If there's no hacks of it, that means there's 99.99% chance that the editor you want does NOT exist. I figured these tips and doing a little search can save the board from getting slaughtered with more "is there a *insert game* editor" threads.

I'm in complete agreement with DD on this one. Maybe this should be stickied or something, as it's already getting buried.

But the 1 in 1,000 newbies who DO read stickies will end up reading it, and even a small help is a good help..

Perhaps a more effective sticky would be a thread with all the common ROM editors listed and links to where you can get them (which could be updated as new editors come out). Along with a message like "if it's not on this list, don't ask for it on the boards" or something. Just an idea. |

But if we list all the known ones, then we'll be able to answer all your questions: If you don't see it here, then NO.

All the ones I know of that have been made or are in development: Arcade ----------- Bubble Bobble Tempest NES -------- SMB SMB2 SMB3 Bubble Bobble Zelda Zelda 2 Metroid Final Fantasy Final Fantasy II (in development) Astyanax (in development) Adventures of Lolo Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle (in development) 1942 (in development) Bust-A-Move Mega Man 1-7 (in development) River City Ransom (in development) SNES ---------- SMW SMK SMRPG Zelda: LttP Harvest Moon Super Bubble Bobble Bust-A-Move Chrono Trigger Clock Tower Earthbound Final Fantasy V Final Fantasy VI Panic in Nakayoshi World Sailor Moon RPG Super Metroid (in development) GB/GBC/GBA --------------------- Pokemon series Zelda: LA SMBDX Snoopy's Magic Snow Metroid 2 Kirby's Block Ball Sega Genesis ---------------------- Sonic 1-3 And that's all the ones I can think of... and I looked a few up on Zophar... so, use this list in whatever way you need to. If I forgot one, then... oh well, add on to it. But, if you don't see your game on THE LIST, then don't ask if it's there... when you can clearly see it's not. Maybe someone could make an OFFICIAL list... EDIT: Note that some of these can only edit text, some can only edit maps, graphics, etc. Some can do everything. If an official list is made, we could have download links to all of em... maybe... and a short description of them... OR, you could do what MOST of us would do... which is, see that the game has an editor, use Google to find the editor, and then we don't bug anyone. (edited by Mighty Kefka on 03-22-04 10:53 AM) |

Don't forget Wheel of Fortune for the NES... that's still technically in development. When that's done, I may have to do a separate one for Sports and Family Editions, because they use a slightly different format for puzzles. However, the engine is still very similar. Oh, and Boulder Dash has a complete editor. How do ya think I did BD:G? |

Originally posted by Mr. CommunistOriginally posted by drjayphd Eh, there might be and we just haven't listed it here. I'm guessing no, but there's certainly interest in hacking it... find someone who could make it (or do what I'm doing and learn how to do it yourself) and you just might see an editor. (This, of course, assumes that the editor's author has the necessary data... you'll have to find that too.) |
