I spent September 11th getting drunk and then going to a Gatas Parlament concert. Gatas is kind of an interesting thing to listen to on that particular day, seeing as how they're an ultra-communist rap group whose latest CD-cover depicts burning American and Israeli flags. Not that I agree with their viewpoint, but their music is neat.

Well, they are going to build freedom tower. I don't know the details but I heard it was going to be the highest building in the world. For showing the terrorists. And people joke around here about America putting Freedom in front of everything. |

I think they should rebuild WTC towers again. And maybe its just me, but seeing it live, the people jumping from the buildings as it happened, well, I agree with Rydain on this one. |

Did they jump from other buildings aswell? You made it sound like that... Whatever they decide to build there, I hope the terrorists will let it be... |

I live in America. And I don't see why anyone would want to care about the Trade Centers. After looking at all the other tragedies, upon seeing the incident, I couldn't help but giggle. They had made such a large comotion about such a small ordeal, why? Is it because we are in America, and we are supposedly better than everyone else? Is it because we are spoiled? I am not sure myself, but if those poor bastards would stop to consider all the other things around the world, I can guarentee the people in New York would have looked, enjoyed the fireworks, and left it as is. No one understands the concept of the world, they live in their own little fantasy worlds. Most people never see outside of their shell until it comes crashing upon them, I feel pity, not for those who died, but for those who lived, if you cannot understand why, please do not ask. More humorous things to speak of is that in Florida, where people are trying to recover what is left of their homes, and have no shelter for that-which-has-yet-to-come, no one flocked to their aid, no one held their hands and told them it was going to be allright. All I see is the fingers of accusation being pointed at the people there, and the cities surrounding. No one holds the hands of those who die elsewhere, the markless graves that tell our stories have nothing within them, awaiting for the day when we too slip up, and fall into a state of chaos. So take this time to laugh and smile with me, to realize that it is human nature not to care, and that anyone who says otherwise is a hypocrite. And for those whom this applies, say it with me, "I am an American, I laugh at the downfall of those around me, and frown upon my own misgivings. For this, I am proud." P.S. - This was my opinion, and all of those statements, if not backed enough, can be backed further by opening yourself to reason. P.S.S. - The afore-mentioned giggle got a fist landed into my stomach by a parental unit, which adds to my distaste. P.S.S.S. - The play off of "I am an American, and I am proud." Does not neccesarily match my personality. (edited by Masako on 09-13-04 09:57 PM) |

All I see is the fingers of accusation being pointed at the people there, and the cities surrounding." It was worse after Hurricane Andrew hit back in 1992. I have an intresting article about it in my journal (link in my bio) if you want to take a read. People should be able to handle things on their own and a helping hand usually only comes from those around them, who went through the same shit. But a few emergancy crews from other states did come down here to help out. I mean, I agree with some of what's been said in this thread, but I have it hard to understand how people can laugh at it. But that's just me, and I respect your thoughts and hopefully you respect my own. EDIT: Now that I think about, if you (you = general) weren't actually there, honestly, I don't think you have the grounds to say much. Sure, thoughts and what not, but, well, hopefully you get my drift. (edited by Anya on 09-13-04 10:09 PM) |

-I was relating the two, if you noticed many people out of state who didn't even have reason to be there came to help, and comfort. -Yes, I was there, we were on vacation when it hit. -Please don't think ill of me, when I was talking about laughing I meant that in an ironical sense, as in the fact that it happens all the time and no one cares, but when it happens to us it is suddenly a big deal. -I do respect your thoughts, and I appreciate that you didn't break into a flame over mine. -Yes people should be able to handle it on their own. I do believe I may have misworded, I was comparing the two. as in New York, as stated, many people came whether needed or not, and yet in Florida's case, nothing happened. P.S. - Believe it or not many people here in Kentucky find it very humorous that it happened. Many idiots live here, the idiots believe that if it wasn't done my many of the races in which they hate (Kentucky is a very racist state, to say the least) or groups that they hate then it is automatically entertaining. P.S.S. Because of the Kentucky (Hate) Factor, I made my post out of knowledge from what I have seen here within my own state, and that of which I have seen while travelling with my parental figures. |

Don't worry, I don't think ill of you or anything like that. Its actually rare for me to talk about things and issues like that (not the hurricane part, since I'm getting more and more into the subject) and I tend to keep them to myself, worried about what others will think of me. So in other words, no worries. |

Trust me, Anya is NOT one of the people here who would hunt you down and start a flame war. And even if she did, it wouldn't be on the board itself. So don't worry.

I casually mentioned this thread in passing to my mother today on the way home from... somewhere, can't really remember where. Well, her reaction was somewhere between "lecture" and "rant". It was one of those rare moments I actually considered violence towards family. Especially since she never let me finish what I was saying. I hate that crap. That said, it's true that what happened to the World Trade Center three years ago was an act of terrorism and an unfortunate loss of many human lives. But seriously, it was three years ago. And besides, as mentioned in this thread (I think...) there have been far worse incidents that people here in the US don't even kno - or care - about. I'd also like to remind you that the people who lost family in the attacks probably would have moved on by now if the media didn't rub it in their face every fucking year. * The statement about people in the US is as a general group and not a personal attack. |

I've got my acetylene ready. More seriously, I think Masako presents the best point here, that America always seems to make a much bigger deal than everyone else when something bad happens to them... I'm thinking particularly of the destruction of The Maine, Pearl Harbor, the threat to Saudi Arabia, the JFK assassination, and now the attacks by terrorists we had a hand in creating. |
