What you're asking for is possible!

Bad news!

You have a lot of work ahead of you... LOADS of work.

Unless you're using the (very bug-ridden) RPG Maker 2003, you'll have to make your own battle system. You're going to run into many problems apart from this one but I can't think of any other right now...

Anyway... here are the actual anwsers to your questions.

1: Either find rips from the games, either make them yourself

2: If you want and yes, you'll have to create 4 heroes for each character.

Here is my suggestion...

Before trying something ambitious (like a full-fledged original RPG or the remake of a commercial game like Final Fantasy), make very short RPGs or just fiddle with the settings to try out each of the maker's features and see what are the maker's capabilities and limits. Once you have mastered the basics (and know what are the limits and how to bypass them), start your big project.
