Neither. Its stupid to have your site in a little pop-up window, for the second. And the first one is totally ripped off Maddox, so its nots even original.

The first one is a maddox ripoff. I know. That's why I want to change it to something original.

I'd rather have the first...

But for the second, I'd recommend a monospace font.

Its a font family. Basically, just another font.

But that's the font that's in QuickBasic.

Sans? I don't think so....

*checks* You use Fixedsys as a font.. ok... That's fine, but make sure to fall back to "monospace" if the user doesn't have the font installed. For example, I use Linux, and I don't have Fixedsys installed (though I could, since X supports both Windows and Macintosh fonts )

First one: Looking familiar? You just ripped Maddox's page and changed some images/titles, even the source is almost completely identical to Maddox's, and you left some chunks of 'Best page in the universe' in the source.

Just to be nitpicky, I can't even see the second site, and I noticed several glaringly obvious factual errors and spelling mistakes in your fansite. You might want to change them.

The popup window thing is a really bad idea. Personally I don't like ANY site design that doesn't size to fit the text. After all... the content is the point of the site, so the design should revolve around the content.... the content shouldn't have to change to conform to the design. (fixed window designs are right up there on my "don't put this on your webpage list" right along with multiple scrollbars and background music)

The actual design of the second one doesn't seem that bad. Just make it resizable and keep it in a regular window. Might want to tone down the border text so that it's not as loud (it's just there for atmosphere, it's not something the user's eyes should be drawn to, so maybe dim it a little?).

As for the first one. I don't see much of a design at all. It's just a black background with a bunch of regular yellow underlined links.

I'd say go with the second one definitely. Just touch it up a bit more

I'll tell you something: It's not the first Maddox rip off I've seen.

Make the second one free-scaling (add some padding cells, or divs, or whatever you're using, not checked the source) and I'm all for it

I'm using GNU/Linux too, Debian, and maybe it's the browser (Firefox), but the font's showing up fine, and I don't have fixedsys installed, but I do have terminal fonts on here.

My brain almost exploded while reading the font discussions. Monospace is a type of font. Fixed-width fonts (where, say, a w is as wide as, say, an i) are monospace fonts. Examples of monospace fonts: Courier New, Terminal, Fixedsys (Windows font), Monaco (Mac font). Other types of fonts include: Sans Serif (Arial, Verdana), Serif (Times New Roman), Cursive/Fantasy (Brush Script), Dingbats (Wingdings).

Fixed width layouts in popup windows are really good and great for every purpose imaginable. If you're stuck in 1997. It's more work to do one of them and it's only getting harder to use them. Use real links and resizable fonts, and give me a wide container element (table/div) that's around 700 pixels. Welcome to the 21st century.

Bla. Too bad your background on the little pop-up window doesn't stretch. Unless it only works in IE, which you SHOULDN'T do. Eh, I say scrap it and make a new layout, without copying Maddox.

you have issues with your design:

http://www.geocities.com/disch_/yoursite.png (copy/paste to address bar is geocities doesn't like when you click it)

I'd assume that's not intentional.

Anyway... I'd also like to revoice my objection to fixed-window layouts and popup windows with content. As you can see, the tiny, unresizable window only takes up like a quarter of my screen... making it very obnoxious.

I don't mean to be blunt... but that layout is shitty. A plain text page would be better. I mean really... pop up windows and fixed size layouts are the worst things you can do to a page aside from background music.

Wow. Firefox sucks. Also I am thinking of making it not a fixed size layout and without popups. I'll make a template when I feel like it.
