What's your favorite Book, Author, or Series?

I really like reading Edgar Allan Poe's work.
But most of his books only have selected tales. My favorite story by him is
The Black Cat. Very good story. Very disturbing. But still very good.

Some more good stories by him are:
The Tell-Tale Heart,
The Masque of the Red Death,
The Fall of the House of Usher,
and The Raven.

Keep meaning to read things like that, but it all seems a bit morbid?

Just finished a bunch of P.G. Wodehouse novels ("Summer Lightning" and the ilk, all Blandings stuff), The Odyssey (Shewrings prose translation, finally!) and George Orwell's "Homage to Catalonia."

Favourite author's got to be (too weak to pin it to one!):

Albert Camus - The Plague, The Fall or The Myth of Sisyphus (the latter ones more of an essay, but it's good)

Douglas Adams - Yeah, well, everyone knows about hitchhiker's guide, but more people should read the Dirk Gently stuff!

Noam Chomsky - Top class essays. Anything from the Seven Stories Press series by him or others (Mahajan's good) should put todays news in balance.

ah, Camus, excellent

the last book series i read was, admitedly, a fantasy series . the magician series by Raymond E. Feist, if anyone is framiliar.

I can't really pick out a favorite book at the moment, it's really too hard. I can say that one of the last interesting books i read wasAngels: An Endangered Species, also Ishmael: An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit by Daniel Quinn was excellent.

on the poetry side of things, William Blake does some excellent work (although i much prefer his engravings and etchings).. and no, i'm not refering to any of his famous poems titled after animals

Yeah, Poe's stuff oozes morbidness. He says in his stories alot that he isn't mad but at times I think he is.

My favorite authors would have to be... Christie, Chrichton, Poe, Adams, Zahn, and Stackpole.

A cookie to whoever knows those last two...

Yes, Fantasy is always good. On Fantasy my favorite authors would have to be Tolkien and C.S. Lewis.

Last book I read was called Holy Blood and the Holy Grail. It was a study on the mystery of a small Pyrenees town called Rennes-les-Chateau in France. It was quite interesting.

More worm than book worm, but yes My parents nicknamed my room "The Library"

My fave author is "Terry Pratchett" by far, my fave DW book is "Mort", although I'm also hooked on the Carrot/Angua thingy (WOn't elaborate due to spoilers). I own every single one of them, even the ones he's done for kids) I also love Douglas Adams (have you read "Salmon of Doubt". I'm going to come out here and say I'm a big "J.K Rowling" fan too, a Harry potter Nut. Roald Dahl is a bona fide genius by the way.
Apart from those, factual or "making of" books, and also books of lists I seem to thrive on.

I read a lot of books...many of them are about how stupid some people are, like the guy who tried to have sex with a vacuum cleaner. As for fiction, I like some fantasy and science fiction.

I'm a pretty big reader.

My latest favorite book is Catch-22, but I could list pages and pages of books I've loved.

Join Me is another cool book, but it's non-fiction. I'm sure many of you Londonheads have heard of it.

I really love the Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop. I just keep reading and rereading them. I read a bit of Mercedes Lackey as well but apart from the Last Herald-Mage trilogy her work isn;t really dark enough for me. I like a bit of Dragonlance but only the core books, and anything with Dalamar in them, because I'm a sucker for dark elves

I forgot totally about dragonlance/lotr! Anyone managed to get through the Silmarillion? Keep meaning to, but, at least the first book's too heavy going for me, and i've read quite a bit of it before in greek mythology.

Oooh, you'll be interested to hear that me and Chad met Margret Weis once

And yes, the only book I ever read is Lord of the Rings. My taste in books is the equivilent of junk food, and I'm going to try to change that when I go back up to uni.

I'm more preferential to non-fiction books. Some of my favorites have been about the band Blur and Gaming.

I also have a liking for discworld books. But my favourite author is H.P. Lovecraft. There's something about the way he writes that's so descriptive, and at the same time he only ever hints at things.

Oh, and the Silmarillion. I've read about half of it it different chunks, but to read it through from start to finish is a challenge. It's more like a reference text than a novel, totally different style to Lord of the Rings.

Hmmm, I gave up on LOTR about halfway through Return Of The King, simply because I put the book down and didn't pick it up again. I'd carry on now but I can't remember where I left off

If you want to broaden your tastes a bit Tomo I've got a few books I could lend ya. Pretty wide ranging, you're not having any of my reference books though - Due to some unpleasentness I'm kinda banned from renting library books

And yeah, the silmarillion reads like myths of yore. I will finish it!

A few good books I can remember would be The Hatchet and The River. Brian's Winter was also good. (all of these were by Gary Paulson.) "The Book of Swords" series was really good and his last name, being Sabrehagen, is kind of ironic.
