Just to let you know, there may not be new public releases for a while as I'm reworking some of the internals of the editor and adding more stuff. DahrkDaiz is documenting the internals of the SMB3 ROM and the next public release should contain improved level drawing that mimics SMB3's drawing routines as closely as possible.

And make some asm hacks to bypass and change the original gfx and level format as LM does!

Yea, and make a button that when you click on it, it completely redesigns randomly every levels and maps, randomly changes the graphics, and even adds complex asm hacks...hmm, well, make a button that create my hack!

Why stop there? It should design new levels, edit map, add brand new minigames, add zapper gun support, make an IPS, zip it, upload it, make a thread about it, scan the thread every day for bug reports, fix them, etc. The functionality would be limited for SMAS, of course. (It would only edit the EXISTING mini games.)

.......LMAO!!!!!

Yeah. Like that'll happen. That'll just make us freaking lazy and tasteless in level design. XD

Anyway. I think you can add the button as a teaser! Put in a fake "Create my hack!" button!

XD to the max.

Do it, make a fake 'Make Hack' button, and in the help file describe as doing all the things in the top 2 posts.

You all would have already spoiled it. Nobody would click it except for a laugh. *remembers Eggvine's About Dialogue cancel*

orynider: If you make an editor edit certain attributes like that, then all of DD's stuff that he is doing will become overused because people would want to make a hack like Mario Adventure (which after playing, I found lots of graphic glitches...) and then creativity and skill will go down. Besides, if you want ASM hacks, learn ASM yourself.

Totally unneeded, and probably unfeasible with regards to NES ROM limitations. Plus, writing an editor which adds new assembly routines that change data is very difficult. You have multiple versions of ROMs floating around, and trying to get every version (or even the most popular versions) working is a nightmare.

Hey thats cool Hukka, with you & DD working side by side to make SMB3W the ultimate SMB3 editor to use, the next release will be more than worth the wait.

Hukka, maybe you should add in a title screen editor

Why bother? It's stored at the end of the ROM, perfectly aligned.

Why not though? It just makes things that much easier to code. Its just another thing that will make people want to download the editor! And with editing it with hex you have to still find all of the bytes and fumble around with a cumbersome hex editor.

And some more stuff to add to the Misc Editor...

Changes what objects turn into what when you step on the P-Switch
Mario's Jump height
fireball damage
invincibility value
how long mario blinks when hit
is there a byte that stores how fast the goal cards change pictures?
note block jump height

Maybe a Mushroom House editor can be added as well as a N-Card editor.

I know its a lot to ask for but these are just suggestions.

It might be doable, but it would require a lot of work. Probably FuSoYa's help would be needed because I don't think hukka knows ASM for SNES....
Even then, you'd have to code all that in the editor and make something to expand the ROM with...

I'm not sure what it is that I'm being asked to add. I'm not familiar with Lunar Magic as I'm not really interested in 16-bit hacking. Change the graphics; are there no editors already that can modify SNES graphics? Change the level format; why? What's the point?

I'll add stuff in the Misc editor later, but I'm not comfortable with debugging myself so someone else (such as DD) will have to document the relevant offsets for me.

A title screen editor is not out of the question but it will not be added just yet. Mushroom house editing and N-card editing are things that I also intend to make editable later on.

Lunar Magic has a feature, called ExGFX, that lets you add more graphics to the game with almost no limit. I don't think you need such a thing - it's overkill, a bit like sandblasting a soup cracker.
