Ok, I've been gone the past few days because I've been recuperating. My neck hurts the worst from all the headbanging. And my ankle is beyond fucked up.

Anyway, every year my local radio station FM99 holds this thing where a bunch of bands play. I went this year and had a pretty good time. Here was the line-up and my thoughts.

First up was a local band named Revelry. They were decent, but I don't think they have what it takes to make it big. In both mainstream and underground.

Next up was Pillar. They were pretty good and performed pretty well. One of the guitarist did this one handed flip while playing. It was damn cool.

After they were done playing, Otep was playing on the other stage while Breaking Benjamin set up. Otep was shitty. I've never actually heard them before, but they sucked live. :/

Breaking Benjamin was up next on the main stage and they were great. I had only heard one song by them before and I liked it. The lead singer guy said he was still drunk from the night before.

Let's see, a few other bands played that arent worth mentioning.

Ugh, worst show of the night: Monster Magnet. They were HORRID! It seemed like they played for an eternity. They were so close to getting booed off the stage. I took about three cigarette breaks during the course of their playing.

At this point, it was announced that Saliva's tour bus had broken down and they wouldn't be able to make it. The reaction was actually a mild cheer
So they said that Hatebreed would be taking their slot on the main stage instead of the other one. That got the crowd roaring.

Drowning Pool came on and their was some speculation on whether or not they would play some of their old stuff. (Before the first lead singer died.) They did, and started out with Sinner. Then they played some of their newer stuff and they ended with Bodies. I must admit, I'm not a huge DB fan but they put on an awesome show. The crowd was really into it.

Crossfade was great. I didn't know who sang "Cold" and so I found that out. Good song. I got home and downloaded their cd. It's pretty good actually, to my surprise. They also did a real good show.

Shinedown was next. Shinedown put on one of the best performances there. I only like one of their songs (Fly From the Outside) but the lead singer did a good job of getting everyone into it. He looks nothing like he sounds. And he was also the only band member during the entire day to actually crowd surf.

EDIT: Crap, I forgot to mention Hatebreed. Hatebreed was awesome. That's pretty much all I can say about them. Of course they had to play "I Will Be Heard". A song I think is actually one of their worst songs. :/ If it's the only song you've heard by them, don't judge them by it. Listen to stuff from the album "Rise of Brutality". It's a lot better than "Perserverance".

I have to mention that beer was 11 fucking dollars a bottle. Insane.

Anyway, it's now dark and people are completly impatient, but it was finally time for Slipknot. Everything was set up and it got dark, then 742617000027 came on. (The first track on their self titled album) People started going fucking nuts. Then you could make out the members of Slipknot coming out from the back of the stages to take their places. And after 742617000027 was over, they went right into Sic and from then on out, everyone is just going insane.

Now I'm not the world's biggest Slipknot fan. I personally prefer bands such as Mudvayne and Mushroomhead more, but I have to admit, they put on one hell of a show. Definitely the best act of the night, performance wise.

Corey was cool as hell, he really knew how to work a crowd.
Let's see here, they played for a good hour. They played a few songs off their new album (yeah, they played Duality), they played Disasterpiece, Wait and Bleed, Eyeless, People = Shit, Three Nil, Vermillion (which Corey dedicated to his family serving over in Iraq, more on that in a bit), and Heretic Anthem.

Midway through the show, Corey said he couldn't go through a show without discussing the situation in the middle east. He said he wasn't about to pick sides, but he has family over there and he wishes that they come home "as soon as fucking possible."

While they were playing, the clown guy walked right past me. =D

After they were done, the stage went dark and then people started leaving but most of us knew better. A couple minutes later they came out again and they started playing Spit it Out. Now if you've seen the dvd, you'll know about the thing they do in the middle of the song before Corey starts singing "Fuck me, I'm all out of enemies" he stopped playing and told us to get down on our knees.

Then he said "When I say 'jump the fuck up', you jump the fuck up". He started the part of the song right before the above lyric again and before the "fuck me" part, he said "jump the fuck up" and 20,000 people did so. It rocked.

Then they ended with Surfacing. I've never seen so many middle fingers in all of my life. It was the only band in the whole concert where people stood up for.

After they were done, I went to the autograph booth and waited about an hour in line. I finally got up there and got them to autograph my Slipknot shirt. They are EXTREMELY cool people. And yeah, I touched Corey.

Last year I missed it because I had to work, but Korn headlined. I don't know who's headlining next year.
So I have a sunburn now, and my neck hurts like hell. Oh, and my ankle.

That must have been freakin sick!!!
Were there any good Mosh pits? Or was the whole thing a Mosh pit? I would've had so much fun. There was something like that here too. Mostly underground, but still awesome.

Well, it was at an amphitheater. There were tons of people up on the grass, and then there were the seat tickets. But directly in front of the stage, they had an open area. That's where I was and that's where the mosh was.

Well this one was thirty minutes away, in Virginia Beach. I saw a few bands that I had been meaning to see. But there's still a long long list of bands remaining. On the top of the list is Metallica. I simply MUST see them live before they break up. If I don't, I'm going on a killing spree. That, and my life will never be complete.

And yeah, the aching is kind of like a badge of honor really. But it doesn't compare to when I go snowboarding. I seriously can't move the next day.

Like I said, I'm just a mediocre Slipknot fan these days and I thought they kicked ass live. They were awesome. So if you're a hardcore fan, just imagine what it will be like.
