The Sam and Max games were pretty good, from Lucasarts, I believe? Yeah, that was before they started massproducing Episode I and II games... I really wish I could play those games again, they were pretty funny. Same with Monkey Island, I have trouble playing those, but they were excellent. | |||

There was only one Sam and Max game. It was re-released on CD with voices and the like, though. Ah, the days of the graphical adventure... |

So you mean the CD one was just a rerelease of the floppy game? I'll have to pick it up sometime, then! (I thought it was a second game, which was why I said gameS) Of course, now that that's over with all that remains is to find it, which will probably be insanely hard itself... Compatibility issues alone are enough to turn me off to a game, though. For example, there's a compatibility issue with Rollercoaster Tycoon and Windows XP. I couldn't play RC Tycoon on my WinXP comp, so I deleted it. |

Grey: Nope. But as was the case with most Lucasarts games back then, they put the CD format to good use. They were in one of the Archives packs... Dunno how common those are nowadays. |

Of course, all by Lucasarts. Off the top of my head, DoTT and Monkey Island 2 were likely CD enhanced. Maniac Mansion definitely wasn't. Not sure if The Dig and Full Throttle came out on floppy format since they were released around the time floppies were being phased out. |

With the exception of Hocus Pocus. It's a really good game and all but I hold a grudge against it since a copy of it on a magazine's cover disk (which was proclaimed to be virus-free) put a virus onto my system that could only be taken care of with a reformat. So yeah. I hold a grudge. |

... Nethack > Rogue. *bows* (Yes, I know that Rogue is technically the precursor to Nethack, but... In any event, the fact games like that are STILL UPDATED boggles the mind. ) |

Originally posted by CulotteTrue enough. My personal favorite is IVAN, which I believe has a DOS version, even though I use the Windows one. I wouldn't count it as an old DOS game though, becouse it's not exactly old. Another roguelike fan though, this is good. |

err.. Betrayal at Krondor, anyone? it's probably one of the oldest games i play, and not even very old at that . still, an excellent RPG for it's time, and even better when you've read the book series. |

Ok, now go ahead and have your old dos memories. The first computer I messed with was an Apple IIe. But, we didn't get a computer (Tandy 2500SX33) till 1997. and my mother and sister was the ones who knew the games best for it. classic consentration, Hoyal card game by siera. But, I did buy ninja gaiden a few years back for $1.00 and other things to from EB. One of my books on game programming is the Action Arcade Adventure Set book by Dian gruber. with pix of Commander Keen, word rescue, and Math Rescue. Oh, and Cosmo. Oh, I also forgot I bought Mega Man 3 on CD-ROM. (edited by jescis on 09-07-04 12:44 AM) |

You obivously forgot X-Com Terror from the Deep from Microprose; but I dunno know how famous that supreme tactical game outside Europe/Germany is The game itself rules kick-ass; you have to build up your bases sim-city like, watch the balances. As you shoot down UFOs and take the missions and win them with good results (keeping the Aquanauts alive, recovering alien bodies and tech), you'll receive your fund regularly. And sure, research was a very important factor. But as you discovered the Gauss Gun for example, it's still usesless if the ammonution is not known and researched yet. And many technicians and workers are far more effiiciently but also cost more - pure tactics I just found my old disk and installed it on my WinME operating comp - and it works, wheee |
