I think everyone on the East Coast of the US should be watching this major hurricane, especially us in Florida, who've already been hit by a hurricane this season, Hurricane Frances.

At least I'm not hearing too much hype behind this one like I did with Charley. At least not yet...

One of the very few good things about Michigan is that it's relatively free of natural disasters (unless snowstorms count)...we've had a few tornado warnings, but that's it...

One of the (only) good things about Nevada is that it's completely free of any natural disturbance (other than some 25mph wind every year or a few sprinkles) and ovbioulsy free of any disasters (besides the ocassional flash flood every leap year or so, but those just clog up traffic)... ... I don't know how you people can stand living there, especially during hurricane season. |

Actually...we have a 50/50 chance of getting hit by this thing. The pictures of it, its amazing, yet a bit scary as well. It it starts on a west/northwest track, then we might be out of the clear. But we won't know that until another day or so. |

I say it goes on that track. You're not getting two in under a month. All we have to worry about is rain that might make its way up from one of those. |

I meant 50/50 that we'll get this hurricane, not in general. The last major hurricane to hit my side of Florida was in 1992. And the last major one to hit the west side of Florida was the one that came by less than a month ago. Even those we're sticking out into the sea, we don't get that many major hurricanes. Maybe a minor one here and there and a couple of tropical storms, but it's usually far inbetween to get a lot of major hits within five or so years. I mean, I've lived in this state my whole life, and I've only be through one major hurricane thus far, and about, three to five baby ones...I don't even count the minor ones that hit us. And it's not that intresting to see and live through a major one though. Especially the aftermath. |

Hmm..I was thinking about going to Florida too. Just to see what it's like for awhile but the hurricanes turned me off . We have everything in California - the hurricanes so I'd rather stick here . I might visit later on but not live . I wondered what it was like in a hurricane but it prolly isn't much. The worst thing we've had was stuff blow places like this guys tarp thing blew in our front yard with it's plastic poles and trees blowing down. One of our branches blew off last winter. Our streets flooded before but that's because people are lazy and don't want to clean out their storm drains .

Originally posted by Bella Actually it is a lot. Damage can be awful when its a massive hurricane. Of course, there are worse natural disaters out there, don't get me wrong, but after you lived through the worst hurricane in modern history, you tend to take offense when people tend to say that it "isn't much". Nothing personal, mind you. |

Yeah, it's how you said it. You said it wasn't very interesting so I took it that way . I didn't mean that the damage or anything like that isn't much. I saw how bad the damage could be. I know I couldn't stand it..or snow..or anything worse than rain. (edited by Bella on 09-01-04 01:46 AM) (edited by Bella on 09-01-04 01:46 AM) |

Oh...I meant it's not intresting in a good way. Sorry about that. And why do I get the feeling that I'm going to have to go to work on the eve of this storm...and that the mall will be busy. It is Labor Day weekend afterall...and of course americans and tourists alike HAVE to spend it at the mall. |

Heh, I did that when I went on vacation to L.A. I went to the mall..but it wasn't a busy weekend...or any hurricanes. You just have to see the malls ..I wanted to go to more malls but my parents were sick of them ..they could have dropped us off..They actually left us alone there. I'm suprised they even did that.
