The news is on GameSpot, IGN and on several other sources - just do a Google News check. Basically Acclaim was in deep financial trouble and it finally hit the fan this weekend. They couldn't secure a $65 million loan and laid off all its employees as a result. The signs were already there - Acclaim missed payroll on August 15 which set off alarm bells. Acclaim didn't always make the best games out there but I remember them back to the NES days. They published quite a few games from small developers - like Rare. They certainly had their big successes like NBA Jam and were in the business for 17 years, so... It's still a little shocking. Three games - Juiced, The Red Star, and Worms 3D - will likely still be published but not by Acclaim. (I'd guess Sega on Worms 3D, THQ on the others. ) |

Hopefully The Red Star will not be made into a game, thus not ruining an awesome comic book.

Ziff: I think the game itself is basically complete so it's just a matter of selling the rights to a publisher, likely at a cheap price. Acclaim gets money to pay off debts, the publisher gets what's almost a guaranteed profit even if the game blows.

I know it is done, I just want it to die. The game is going to ruin everything. EVERYTHING.

Acclaim made cash at some points... the ports of MK and MK2 for consoles raked in a ton of cash for them. But they couldn't keep up with the times, I guess... |

I still rembember a few years ago when I thought Acmlm was a ripoff of Acclaim. Anyway, the only memorable game I played from them was some winter sport game made in the beginning of the 90's. I found it pretty fun back then... other that. |

I mainly remember Acclaim because some people here mentioned that "Acclaim" was their pronunciation of "Acmlm"...

A far as I'm concerned, it'll be good to get them out of the way. They havent had control over the MK franchise for years, and Turok was getting really bad anyway. Good riddance. |

Battletoads wasn't Acclaim. If memory serves me right, Tradewest released it. But it was Rare anyways. |

No more Acclaim? Hmm... only a few (VERY FEW) games were good... Oh well... they weren't doing good now anyways. I haven't really seen any good games released by them. Only some of the old games... |

Their website is still up. Some of Acclaim's wrestling games are superb even compared to what's been made the last year or 2 (yuck! ), WWF Warzone is cool.
