The rifle man remained standing, and spoke to the group. "I am Clive, and I must apoligize. I have lied to you all." He lowered himself to the ground, sitting down as he shifted his rifle.

"I am not a Guardsman. In fact, I myself am being looked for by the Guard for, let's say "mistakes", I made in the past. The reason I claimed to be a guard was because I see a lot of myself at a younger age in this man." He motioned to the wounded man on the table. "I only wished to return the favour that was given to me when I was younger."

The man on the table cringed at the thought at being in the same house as some one who might attract negative attention, even if it was the Guard. He knew they would do nothing to a group this size. The cowards. Atleast that is what he had heard from locals about the Guards of this place. However he found himself grateful for the help.

"Hey anyone else hungry I don't think I have eaten since yesterday, because someone got me lost."

Serra gave a mean look at Destin, and Destin acted surprised. Serra grabbed the pack of Destin's back and took out some cooking utensils and some food. She looked around trying to remember where she would cook when she wasn't outside.

"Hey uhh do you have something I can cook or at least a fire place?"

Destin sighed as Serra continued to rumage through the pack taking out at least a weeks worth of supplies.

Efrael just frowned and shook his head - but Blitzen could make out the mild amusement. Efrael held out his palm again, casting out a small spark that set the contents of a nearby stone bowl aflame - upon further inspection, the vents split in the walls and celing near it were obviously built to draw out smoke - obviously by means of another enchantment in the foundry. "...by all means. Make yourselves comfortable."

Blitzen was ready to happily plop himself down on the floor. "...not you." Efrael made another motion with his hand, and Blitzen again found himself drawn into another room.

"Ugh, now what... listen, I'm sorry about bringing all these people here, it's just th-"

"You should know I enjoy the company. But, you reek of mana."

"The magic you taught me... I'm not terribly efficient in sealing the condoots after I trigger the mana surge, and-"

"Conduits."

"Will you let me finish for once?" Blitzen spat. He let out a yelp as Efrael hunched down, nabbing Blitzen's pudgy arm up. He quickly caught notice of the gleaming sword hiding under his belt. What happened next was not exactly what Blitzen had expected. He opened his eyes, finding the strong elf cowering backwards, almost as if he were fighting off some encroaching aura of Blitzen's.

"Gods!!..." Efrael coughed. "...what... no, that can't be..."

"Yeah, I spent my money again... really, I thought it was a good deal..." he removed the blade, causing Efrael to press himself harder against the wall.

"That is some old wives tale..."

"Of what?"

"...Oathkeeper... you found this, this blade, just off of some street urchin?!"

"He did sound like a bit of a moron, but, yeah."

"...I... need time to think..." Efrael seemed to limp away from his pained stance, slumping off into the hall. Blitzen could do little else but watch. Looking at the sword in his hand again, he sheepishly slid it up onto a nearby table, glancing at it again over his shoulder as he turned to leave.

Something was either very bad or very good about this sword, and Efrael didn't seem terribly willing to conceal it if he wanted nothing to do with it until the morn, which was now where his rest would lead him.

Taking note to make no mention of it, he returned to the other room.

Serra started cooking with Destin's help, even though he didn't want to. She was a very good cook, but made far to much every time she did cook. Soon they finished a big dinner wa ready.

"Ok, it is done if you want to eat."

Destin waited knowing that he would get his food, but something was troubling him. He didn't sense the sword, but Hero and Serra did. Serra could sense more and could even beat him at skirmishes. He had asked Hero about this several times, but everytime he asked Hero just said that he would learn in time why he couldn't win. Hero had grown very worried about the sword and continued to felt its powers. He had taken a tangilble form, but all he did was look at the sword trying to study it.

"Very odd I can feel its power, but something seems wrong. I should keep an eyes on Blitzen just incase this becomes a serious threat."

Laying still as not to attract attention the stranger tried to gather his thoughts. Back in his homeland it was said he had the blessing/curse of the Gods. His ancestors had somehow gathered traits from the four Dominion Species. One person could have traits like an elf and their cousin could have traits like a human. Not exactly, just some characteristics.

Dominion Race:
The Dominion Races are called that because the castle dwellers(Humans), The Warriors(Elves), the Travelers(Dwarves), and the Seabound(Orken) all have Dominion Lords. Ten Dominion Lords each.

The reason it is considered the blessing/curse of the Gods is every one in his family have positive/negative traits coming from all the species. He had been the most blessed with being able to hear as well or nearly as well as an elf. This had enabled him to hear everything that had gone on in the other room. He quickly decided there was something going on. Something bigger than he. He then and there decided he had to know what was happening. He definitely had the curiosity of a human, which he really was considered by others(Human blood flowed more strongly in his blood than any other), and even though there was no physical way to tell he wasn't he still considered himself fully mixed.

There was also no way to tell what he was from his magic(in which all the seperate species from his land performed differently), because he had his practice in the Void magic. This was considered evil magic because when it was first discovered it required a blood sacrifice. Now he the only one left could wield it freely. If there was any way to detect Void magic without embracing it he would have been caught long ago. Now he was unstoppable with a magic that seemed to just happen to those who were not weilding it at the moment. Only people from his land could wield it and he is the only one with even a memory of it.

Now he realized the people around him had been talking. The girl was cooking. It was torture. If only he could sit up...err...wait! His head fell the half inch he had lifted it. It felt like falling off a house. His sword! He couldn't see his sword any where. Maybe it was on that guys back. No, that made no sense. He was tired...really tired. He had been asleep...*yawn*...asleep when...

Clive simply made himself a couple sandwiches before sitting back down. He noticed the wounded man move slightly, but did not mention it to anyone.

As he finished one sandwich, he stood and made his way towards the door. "I must head home for the night. I have some things I need to attend to." With that, he pulled his hood over his head and lets the house, closing the door behind himself.

"He-" Blitzen began to stand from the blanket on the floor, but sank back down again as the door slammed.

"...oh, well..." he poked at the bowl of stew before him with his spoon for a bit before finally beginning to eat from it. While those in that room would go on to have a fairly decent sleep... many others wouldn't.

********

A short while later; whether any of the three were awake or not, Blitzen was unsure. But he himself had sprung out of bed, eager to ask Efrael what tasks he would be assigned today in the management of the household - that was, after some eggs were found.

"Hey." Blitzen waved as Efrael came out of his room.

"Do you have any idea what time it is?" He replied calmly.

When Blitzen went to look, the window had been sheathed by a long cloth. He reached up, lifting it away. Daybreak had just begun. "...well, I can't say I've been up THIS early in a while."

"We must leave while the others are still asleep."

"Huh?" Blitzen blinked as Efrael walked around him.

He planted his hands on the countertop, staring off into the distance. "I placed special condiments into your meal and mine to intensify our sleep. Those here won't wake for hours yet. In the meanwhile, we must make haste."

"Haste where?"

"San D'oria."

Blitzen didn't particularly know much of the ramparted city far to the north, other than it was the capital of the kingdom of the same name - one populated almost entirely by people of Efrael's race. While he had never been there himself, it wasn't particularly a haven for people of other bloods.

"I will explain on the way," Efrael said hurriedly. "Take the Oathkeeper with you."

Blitzen did as he was told, fetching the blade from the tabletop nearby. He was shocked to find that it was even lighter than before, and he was now capable of holding it entirely in one hand - a feat for someone with his stature. As Efrael started for the back door, Blitzen stumbled behind. "What? Hey! What's going on here? What about the others?"

"Others cannot know of the curse of this blade. It is imperative that we hand it over to San D'oria for safekeeping. A friend of yours may be a friend of mine, but we cannot let this thing fall into the wrong hands."

"Bu-" Blitzen was again yanked forward out the door, which swung half-shut with a click. Again, Bastok's morning was dead quiet.

Having woken up just before the sun, as was the norm with him, Clive made his way back to Blitzen's house. As he got within sight of the building, he stopped and dived behind a nearby cart, as he watched the Tarutaru and his Elven 'father' quietly make their way out of the house and towards the exit of town.

Looks like they don't want company. Too bad I don't have much better to do. Clive then began to track the two, knowing he was good at it. His tracking skills put food in his belly and some zeny in his pockets.

Hero materialized as the two left. He didn't need sleep as he didn't have a true body at the moment and told Serra and Destin he would make sure nothing happened. While the two were still asleep they began to glow. They suddenly disappeared and Hero's body was now completely tangible. Serra and Destin woke up with the suddenly merging and spoke to Hero.

"Hey what are you doing!"

"Hero, why did you reform, do you have to fight something?"

Hero began to leave the house as quietly as he could. He turned around and took out a sword. He thrust the sword into the wounded man and a bright light enveloped him healing him of all major wounds. He quickly left the house and followed the precence of the Oathkeeper.

"Trust me. You too would be to noisy to follow them."

The stranger looked at his chest to make sure he wasn't dead. Then noticed he felt no pain at all. He could sense there was something wrong. He then went through the back door. "Yep, this is where they left." he said to himself. Now following them will be easy. It would be better to follow that "Blitzen". He is up to something, him and that "grandpa" of his. They could not be trusted, not that he trusted any of the people he had met in this realm.

He follows the trail easily. Blitzen has no idea how to cover his trail, if he is even trying. there is also occasional signs of a comrade. Probably an elf judging by the tracks.

After following for about a minute he comes upon a stranger also following the path (it's Hero but he doesn't recognize him.) Running along the side of the way the path obviously continues he easily passes the traveler and finds the trail. A while later he runs into the other one. Quite literally running into him. He had been walking to silent for even him to hear. He had been on the other sid of a big tree. Walking along in the same direction of the path. Of course I was sprinting. Qual t'i mon. Wow have I been thinking in their language. He had been in this land so long he would soon forget his own language. He had been so close to escaping this realm. Now he had started out on another quest. Oh well, his homeland could wait a little longer. "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention."

OOC: Don't try to translate that language. I just made it up.

The reason the stranger didn't hear Clive is because he was currently skinning a rabbit he had killed. Going back to his work, he said, "That's fine, neither was I. I thought I heard footsteps. Sit down, I'll split this meat with you."

Clive then dug out his flint and steel, and ignited a fire he had set up beforehand. He knew what way Blitzen was going, and knew that he could keep up with them, even if he did stop for an hour.

Blitzen jogged along, trying desperately to keep up with the elf's long strides. The long drab robe he had been provided by Efrael, who was also wearing some concealing clothing, was obviously not designed for him. Not much in Bastok was. He continued stumbling over them, nearly tripping multiple times as the two made their way down a hill. The lights of the entry tunnel leading through a mountainside into the concealed fortress of Bastok were barely visible on the horizon of the wastes.

Bastok wasn't the most fertile of regions. The rocky, dusty terrain concealed deposits of valuable natural ores, on which the sustainability of Bastok itself was founded.

"S-slow down!" Blitzen stammered, eventually falling facefirst into the dirt. He was picked off the ground by Efrael, and not even dusted off as he was drug again into a run.

"I am sorry..." Efrael sighed. "...but for now we would do well to get out of the Gustaberg regions as quick as possible... far too many people pass through here travelling to and from Bastok... and for now, at least, we should try to attract as little attention as possible."

Blitzen sighed as he forced his stubby legs into action again - still wondering what kind of reaction his visitors would have to his disappearance.

Hero had picked up speed and had seen Blitzen fall, but he remained far enough away to stay out of sight. He kept up the same pace they did without much trouble. He became aware that the only place they could go would be the Highlands, but from there they could head to a multitude of places.

"Damn I hate guessing."

The stranger had introduced himself as Slayer during the meal. When it was over he said "Thanks but I really must be going" He then ran in the direction of the tracks. The person he had passed before was now ahead of him. He knew where they were going now. It would be impossible to track them through the city so he decided to sprint. "Bloody Void, can't even use teleport" Void magic has to be used for destruction. Therefore teleporting yourself any where but Hell or the Void itself, where you were sure to die, teleporting was out of the question. He could tell they were at quicker pace than he had originally projected, but he knew he could catch up. Hopefully before they reached a city or any other place largly populated.

Cilve watched the stranger run off. Feh, probably'll get eaten by wolves or orcs.

He finished his meal, quickly packed up his stuff, and resumed his speedy movement towards San D'oria.

Hero's assumption was correct. For the most part there wasn't much of a way out on foot except through what travellers deemed the Konschtat Highlands - where the desolation of Bastok ended and the green fields leading to San D'oria began.

Morning turned to afternoon, afternoon turned to night. With a loud wheeze, Blitzen feel onto his knees. Efrael stopped shortly after. They stood on top of a tall hill, and the sharp rock face dividing Konschtat from what lied beyond was visible off in the distance. "...let us camp here tonight."

********

Soon, Blitzen realized there would be no fire.

Still, the air was cool without eliciting a chill, and Efrael went to work pitching up a tiny tent. In any sort of adverse weather condition it wouldn't have lasted minutes, but it worked for the time being.

"Tell me about the Oathkeeper." Blitzen said over his shoulder as Efrael began to duck inside. Efrael waited a moment before drawing his head back out.

"...yes?"

"Well, we're comfy. You're not going to tell me why I'm out here?"

"We're returning that sword to San D'oria. I should not need to say any more."

"It seems awfully dear to you." Blitzen pointed to the blade, tucked now under Efrael's belt. Efrael glanced back up, his face more saddened than before. He began to open his mouth, but froze as he heard several loud rumbles a short distance away. He span around, drawing another longsword from his other hip. He held it in front of him, circling around the tent. Another low sound rose from the hills, and Efrael growled. "...bastards! I should've known not to camp out this high!"

"W-what's going on?" Blitzen backed up. He soon found the Oathkeeper jammed into his grip.

"Promise you'll protect me!" Efrael commanded.

"What?" Blitzen fumbled with the sword in his hands. "How am I supposed to protect YOU?"

"Just do it!" Efrael shot back. He turned around, a grim expression on his face as what looked like a massive, humanoid tortoise lumber over the crest of the hill - its dark eyes locked with Efrael, and gave no second thought before charging him blindly, waving around a sword easily bigger than both Efrael's and Blitzen's put together.

"Oh dear." Blitzen sighed.

OOC don't worry I like the whole ff11 theme so I will sit here, you might want to ask Schwa or Grey though. They are kind of interested in these things.

Hero saw the monster and knew what it was, and uttered one word, "Beastmen!" Hero was about to charge it, but he saw Efrael charging it and stopped and remained hidden. He was ready to jump in at a moments notice. He already had his spear out and ready, but refrained fro using any power as he would be attacked by any other beastmen around.

OOC Oh I can't remember there names is it Quadvers or something. I know the other two, Yagudo and Orcs, but I can never get the other one.

Clive had noticed a person stop and quickly draw a spear. Must have noticed a monster. They're a bit too close to where Blitzen should be, though. Clive quickly snuck around them, remaining out of sight before spotting what was attacking Blitzen and Efrael. The huge, humanoid tortose had not spotted him yet. "Damn Beastmen."

Clive pulled his rifle off his shoulder, loaded a normal Bullet, took aim, and shot the Greater Quadav square in the back of the head. It turned towards the source of the attack, but couldn't see Clive through the darkness. By turning, it left it's back WIDE open to Efrael and Blitzen.

"Strike!" Efrael leapt forward, ready to cleave at the backside of the Quadav's head. He stumbled as the ground directly beneath him split into jagged mounds of dirt, sending him flying off his feet. Another shadow could be seen at the far side of the camp, raising an oddly-carved ash staff.

Efrael hit one knee, rolling away as the great blade crushed the ground beneath him more. "Blitzen! Take care of him!"

"...bu-"

"You're protecting me, remember?"

Blitzen turned around as a wave of energy rose around the Quadav priest, sending a blast of flame at Efrael - and Blitzen inbetween. Quickly feeling the heat pierce at him, he swung blindly. The blade in his hand let off a glint of light as it struck home, sending the ball of fire - easily larger than Blitzen himself - towards the warrior Quadav. Efrael ducked, and the attack hit home, the soldier letting out a screech as he was baked good by his own shell.

"...wha?" Efrael glanced back to a grove of trees nearby.
