The water shone as the moon was briefly visible. The small transport boat carried on, another tall cliff far off blocking the light again - and, at once, its passengers were silent - almost as if they knew that one of them was not going to see it again.

In a flash the door leading down into the hull blasted open, a massive-framed man having sent both swinging doors off their hinges with his bare hands. Everyone shuffled to one side of the deck or the other - leaving one tall, shining-armored elf with his hands firmly planted on the guardrail. It took him a moment to turn around. By then their blades had already locked. An ornately carved white sword, almost looking to have been carved straight from some kind of ore, and the pitch-black greatsword double in length.

What happened next was a blur to most. Another crash rang out as the boat sailed under a rock outcropping, draping it in shadow. Those who hadn't fled into the hold already had no idea what happened in that moment - for when it slid back into the light, no evidence that either had been there existed.

Off in the distance rocks could be heard crumbling.

********

One hundred and thirty seven years, 237 days, 15 hours, 24 minutes and 3 seconds later, a flat of eggs hit the cobblestone of a busy Bastokan city square. The two foot drop hadn't done any particular damage, however.

Blitzen barely hunched over, picking the sheet back up. His 3' 6'' stature wasn't necessarily a curse as some of peers would have him think. His hazel eyes were still fixated on a small sales booth, one having recently joined the seemingly hundreds of others on Merchant's Row. He reached up, fighting his way through a head of scruffy brown hair and rubbing his scalp as he stared in disbelief.

No one, and he knew no one would have thought of selling a gleaming white sword in this part of town, for this price, especially so when he noticed the mountains of cheap trinkets surrounding it. Blitzen stepped forward, still holding back a surprised cough as he dug through his spending money. He hoisted himself up the counter. The robed salesman, covered in darkness, turned to face him. Blitzen almost lost his grip.

"...are you serious?" Blitzen pointed at the sword.

"...50 gold. No more, no less." he responded dully.

Blitzen's eyes lit up as he glanced at the sword again. Not that he had any resistance to shiny things, and while he wouldn't have had any idea otherwise that the edge of the blade was in horrendous condition, something about it simply hypnotized him. Whether it was a it's-a-cheap-piece-of-crap-but-it's-cheap fix or something else was beyond him.

"Gimme." Blitzen said lazily. He slapped the coins on the table.

"Swordsmanship seems very un-Tarutaruly."

Blitzen's ears, pointed and sitting perpendicular to his head, sank.

"...money is money, I suppose..." a lanky arm shoved the hilt of the sword to him. "...but, tell me, Tarutaru... you truly promise to take this blade?"

"...yeah?"

"I hope that is a promise you can keep."

Blitzen snapped the blade up, dragging it off with one hand - something his physique wasn't built for, he realized as it sagged in his grip and crushed the entire rack of eggs at his feet. "...crud." He would have put some thought into the cryptic farewell given to him, but first, he needed some eggs. He glanced around again as he held the sword in both arms across his chest. "...I hope no one else was looking at this... I mean, why wouldn't they..."

"Ok, so why are we here again?"

Destin and Serra were walking through the town square themselves, and for once weren't attracting attention.

"Serra I told you a bunch already!"

If actually examined the boy and girl had numorous amount of swords on thier back. Each one had a power in it that would keep an army at bay if used right.

"Yeah I know, but you are so boring I lose concentration."

"Hey! Well anyways we are here to find the best smith or whatever to get the capes power to be able to provide all three of us with a body."

Serra had stopped listenting after the first few words and was looking at the Tarutaru carring a sword that was a little to big for him.

"Did you even listen?"

Serra was already on her way over to Blitzen.

"Hey do you need help with that?"

A new voice was heard by Destin, but there was no body to speak it. "Destin just hurry up and see what she is doing."

Destin walked over too, but spoke with ignorance.

"Hey little guy you shouldn't play with swords you are too young."

Serra cast an angry glance at him as she knew what was about to happen.

Blitzen whirled around, letting out a high-pitched grumble. "For your information I can handle this JUST fine!"

Before he could attempt make such a demonstration, thereby unwittingly damaging much property in the process, the merchant cut in again. "...ah, it's usual for one to forget about such a dysfunctional aging process these little ones go through... but, how immature can he be to take on a challenge like this?"

"H-hey! What's that supposed to mean?"

He felt a chill as the man's face turned appropriately cold. "I wish I knew." Before Blitzen could raise his arm again, the cloth tarp that signified the closing of similar booths was yanked down over the front opening of the stall.

The sword drug along the ground moreso as Blitzen sulked. "Ah, hell..." he glanced back at the two, noticing their stockpile of weaponry. "...looks like I beat you to the punch today, hm?..."

"Hey I was just trying to help!"

Serra said this irritably as her mood quickly changed. Destin on the other hand inspected the sword closely. Before he could speak the other voice spoke again.

"I can feel this sword, but it is different from the twelve we possess. This is very disturbing... I should have felt this a long time ago."

Destin finished looking at the sword and spoke more to himself as if he was actually interested in the sword.

"It doesn't look too dangerous. It is probably so blunt that it couldn't hurt anything. Not to mention it looks to heavy to swing correctly."

Serra spoke again, but she had calmed down.

"We don't buy swords. Twelve of these are Hero's and the 13th one is mine. Destin is the only one who doesn't have a weapon."

A man, probably between 30 and 40 years old, sat on the edge of a crate, idely spinning a bullet casing between his fingers. A rifle was strapped over his back, and two ornate daggers hug at his hips, almost covered by the wool clothing and linen cloak he wore.

He watched the most interesting scene around him, a man and woman talking to a male Tarutaru.

Blitzen tugged at his collar. "Well, I guess you've got a point there... ugh... there's so many blemishes on this thing, but what can you get for 50 gold, eh..." he ran the tip of his finger along the edge, and was surprised to find a slight edge - one that had been strangely absent during his earlier gropings. "...this thing is giving me bad vibes... you know, I wonder if I could rip anyone else off with this the way that guy did to m-"

Blitzen suddenly lurched down, the sword seeming to double in weight in his grip. "...wha?! Geez, I'm sorry-"

His comments worked both ways, he was shocked to find, as the weapon regained its former drag. Blitzen stood back up, looking over the sword again. REALLY bad vibes... He quickly hid it behind his back, hoping not to attract attention with his sudden lapse. The gaze of the older man a distance away was seeming to weigh just as much on his mind. "...uh, well, anyways, are you guys from around here? Never thought you could get great swords from the guys in this part of town, I guess you know as much as I..."

Suddenly a person emerges from the crowd at a flat sprint. He is dressed in red and black with a sword in hand, and an abandoned sheath tied to a belt loop. He looks over his shoulder obviously for signs of pursuit, muttering to himself he says"Good I don't think..." but is cut off when he trips over Blitzen. His small frame sent the stranger down in a heap. Somehow he manages to keep from stabbing any one.(But he appears to already have been injured) Saying a quick apology he turned onto his back and got ready to fight whoever he thought was behind him.

There is no sign that any one is or ever was following him.

Serra felt a chill from one of her own swords, and when she took it out it took the shape of a great katana. The sword gleamed in the light, but it seemed to be blinking oddly as if something was surpressing it.

"Whatever that sword is doing it is having an effect on my sword, but we didn't buy our swords. They were Hero's, but he never told us exactly how he came across them."

"Anyways before we get side tracked again, do you need help with that. I know a little about sword smithing myself, and I could probably fix a few of the problems in the blade."

Destin jumped back as the man suddenly collided with Blitzen and had his sword out in the same second. More by instinct then willingness he had the sword ready for a fight. He relaxed his grip as he noticed the man was bleeding, and bent down to help him. Serra tried to get Blitzen back on his feet, while she watched to make sure Destin didn't do something stupid.

The stranger accepted Destin's help, but watched his every move as if expecting a betrayal. Only taking his eyes of him in quick attempts to survey the area he came from as if he ws still convinced he was being followed. When Destin got a closer look the strangers wounds he realized his legs were cut to the point of falling off, he also had multiple stabs in his sides and chest, but the most interesting wound was a vertical gash clear across his throat(It looks like some one tried to slit his throat in the middle of a battle and almost succeeded). Not all the blood is his though his sword is covered with it, along with dirt, and other things. "I'm fine." he says. but is unable to get to his feet or even to sit up.

Blitzen was eventually hoisted up, coughing out a mouthful of dust. "...urgh... thanks, I..." he finally caught sight of the downed man, breaking from Serra's grip to rush over to him. "Holy crap, what were you doing?!... h-hang on a moment, just stay still..."

Blitzen stood with both his palms out, concentrating fiercely. For a moment a faint blue aura was visible around the man, but it suddenly broke as Blitzen snapped back. He felt his hands burn, a sign that some of the damage had been drained from the stranger's body, but still not enough to warrant a feasible recovery.

"You're certainly NOT fine," Blitzen spun back to Destin and Serra. "...help me get this guy back to my dad's house... he'll be able to heal him better than I can... and if you're planning on doing any smithing besides, he could speed up the process. Trust me." he bent down, slinging the man's arm across both his shoulders.

Destin and Serra glanced at each other oddly as if they were hiding something. Destin got the man to lean again him while they followed Blitzen. Serra had began to reach to one of her swords, but thought better against it as she knew the stranger wouldn't be in such critical conditions for a long time. Destin had sheathed his sword before helping the man.

"We don't really need smithing, but I was saying I could fix that sword."

Hero's voice was heard again, "I would rather that someone more experienced handled it, if we need to allow me."

"I am not going to any ones house I need to keep going." He shoves them back and losing their support immediatly falls down. "Okay, maybe I could stand some healing." He says, but begins coughing up blood and loses coinciousness. The ground all around him is covered in blood, the gore has drawn the attention of a large crowd beginning to create a circle those helping the "corpse". Some one shouts at another to fetch the guards. A small child is seen running toward the gates where the nearest guards are stationed.

The man who was watching what was happening stood up, dusted off the seat of his pants, and stopped the running child. He bent to one knee and told the child, "Don't worry. I'm a member of the guard, I'll take care of this man." He then began to make his way through the crowd.

As he reached the center of the crowd, he turned and told the group of onlookers, "Please return to your business. The Royal Guard of Bastok will help this man to a place of rest." As the crowd accepted him as a member of the Bastok Guard and began to dispurse, he turned and hald out a potion to the Tarutaru. "Give him this, then we'll move him, ok?"

The crowd reluctantly disolves and the stranger opens his eyes. mumbling something about"Some one thinking he is dead" Then spotting the small container. one thought alone crushes all else. It is a trap they heal me enough so I will live long enough to be poisoned.Damn if only I had enough strength to call for help. He actually tries but just ends up choking on the blood that was beginning to become cold in his mouth. So this is how he would die.

Blitzen was already at work dabbing the thin, light-green liquid over the man's wounds. Using up the flask, he quickly tucked the sword between his sweater and the thin belt over top of it. "...good, this should stabilize him for now... we should be in the clear now, as soon as we get him to Dad's he'll be bright and shiny as new."

The boy from earlier suspended the man's other arm as Blitzen began to tug him down the street, the crowd parting as he went. "...well, c'mon, don't just stand there."

********

It would be a ten minute trip to a small, oval house sitting atop a raised platform of concrete. Blitzen lead the group, still supporting the man as he kicked the wooden door (which seemed rather short to everyone BUT him) in front of him hard.

"Pops! Open up!" Blitzen shouted.

"You got those eggs?" a sharp voice called from within.

"This is an emergency!" Blitzen called back. "We need your magic!"

Right on cue the door opened backwards. Standing behind was a tall elf, with a slim, imposing frame. He was obviously much older than his physique would have indicated, judging by his face of trimmed, pearly-white hair. He knelt down to the man, lifting his head up. "...what happened here?"

"We were in the town square, I WAS getting some eggs, and he ran into us... I did some first aid with one of the Royal Guardsman's help..." he gestured behind him. "...help us."

"...very well." he glanced through the group. He pivoted around, leaving Blitzen to continue his haul as he gestured over his shoulder "...all of you, please come in for a moment."

Watching the mix-match group enter the house a dark figure chuckles to himself "They only make it easier." but for now he would report and return later to finish his appointed task. His master would be pleased.

OOC:Hey, Utilityman you can use this character in the story line. That is why I didn't mention the specific task or his masters name.

Destin and Serra entered the house, but they didn't even have a thought about the size of it. Since each had been adventuring for so long they haven't been in many houses.

Whisper,
"Hey Destin, we could have ended this situation without any of this happening... Why did Hero want us to wait?"

"I'm not quite sure he is a lot older than us he must have some reason."

Destin looked around waiting to be told where to set hm down at.

The elf stood, staring out the window with his arms folded behind his back as Blitzen and his assistant barely managed to hoist the man onto the far-too-short maple table in the living room.

"...are you sure you weren't travelling with any others?"

"What'd make you think that?" Blitzen wheezed.

"...never mind. Anyways, whoever you are... remain still for a moment, this may sting a little..."

With little warning he knelt down, holding out his palms in the same manner as Blitzen had earlier - except this time the rise in the blue aura was much faster than before, and burned with a brightness that Blitzen's incantation could never have matched up to. The healer let out a growl as feedback hit him - wounds sealed, skin reformed, and blood dried onto the wounded man's clothes. The process finished with a bright flash, small sparkles of light flickering off into the air as he sat back.

"Whoo! That's what I'm talking about." Blitzen pumped his fist.

"...he had sustained a large injury, whatever had happened. I believe any internal damage has receded..." he stood to his feet. "...but, in order to ensure his safety, I must ask that he stays here tonight."

He stepped back to the window, letting the man regain his senses. "...how.. rude of me, I haven't even bothered to introduce myself... I am Efrael. Blitzen has obviously boasted of his relation to me..." he glared daggers at the Taru. "...but, all I can say is that we both just live here. Once your friend is alive again... I must ask you to leave."

"Well, that's certainly an introduction." Blitzen sighed.

"I am more than happy to help you in the ways that I have, but... I have other things.. to attend to."

"...ugh." Blitzen flopped back onto a padded chair in the other corner of the room.

"Friend?" Destin and Serra spoke at the same time, and Serra continued on,don't think either of us have ever met him before, or have you Destin?"

Destin was surprised to hear his name while he was looking out the window.

"Hard to say really. My kingdom was like this place, except with a king. We might have met on the battle field, but other than that I have never seen him before."

Destin went back to looking out of the window half longing to be with people that had almost the same blood as him.

Believing him unconscious no one noticed the mans eyes ease open. Maybe I was wrong about them. He thought to himself. But I've never trusted any one before and seen to many great soldiers fall to start now. He suddenly realized he had not eaten in a while adn it had begun to catch up with him.
