My main OS takes about 40 seconds to boot. It's Fedora Core 2... I plan on doing Linux from scrath soon, because FC2 has a lot of bloat

Windows XP Pro takes about three minutes... same PC. They're on a dual boot thing.

It takes roughly 10 seconds to get from the XP loading screen to the login screen. No problems at all.

The Celery with Windows XP though... We're talking around 2-3 minutes but there's almost nothing installed on it so loading time after login is OK.

On average, for our three computers, 2 minutes. The two computers with Windows XP are the slowest, while mine with Windows 98 generally takes less than a minute for everything to start, from power button to desktop. The time for the two XP computers is from loading screen to desktop, sadly...

my laptop used to take only about 20 seconds to boot up. But after installing a lot of stuff and bloating the registry, it's been pushing 1 minute.

As for my desktop, it takes about 30 minutes since it doesn't like cold booting

Runs on Wincrap ME, it's an old, POS comp.

It is never off, so I wouldn't know how long it takes. Maybe about 30-80 seconds though.

i wonder, for those who leave their non-server computers on all day and night, i wonder if you guys pay for the electricity you guys use up?

oh well, even if i had to pay for my own electricity, i'd leave it on all day anyways

Under 30 seconds, I'm willing to bet around 15. Three desktop icons, five quicklaunch icons. Having a fresh install of XP always helps.

I usually shut down at night so no one else around here messes with the comp... and I log off totally to disconnect my dialup, seeing as how it doesn't seem to detect when it's on when I go to do so manually

About 2 minutes when I just rebooted, I have a lot of programs in startup and a large HTML desktop image. If I hadn't removed a bunch of programs so my mom could use it while I was away without killing it, probably more around 2:20.
For my laptop (Win98), about a minute, not counting the time to put in the startup password.

Heh ... I thought it might be good to include that 24/7 option ... just considered Acmlm's server, from which many people already leeched some stuff - heh, there are also some people having running their box all-the-day long ... though I don't believe it will be really 365 days a year ...
Getting some (vital) Windows updates for for example _require_ a reboot, hehe

Desktop (XP) takes about 15-20 seconds, laptop (Debian GNU/Linux, 2.6.8.1) takes about 30-45, and at least 10-15 of that's GDM/X starting up.

Comp's don't use so much power anyway, just the monitors. At least I tell my parents that...

From POST to login to Windows? It's tons faster than W98 at any rate, I'm using WXP and I think it's around 2 minutes all included.
