I have noticed that in some post layouts (actually, only Acmlm's) images are used as fonts. What I mean is, in Acmlm's layout, on the right, his posting stats/ranks are displayed. However, what is used to write out these stats isn't normal text, but it looks like each individual letter is an image. How can this be done? Do you create an image for each letter, then set a variable that links to the image when that character is displayed? Like " if 'a' then img=www.ble.com/images/letter_a.gif" or something like that? I just think its cool and would like to know how its done.

This is made using GD and PHP. But there is a way to make it using separate pics.

The GD Image Library is something that have the uses PHP to create dynamics images. Alot of people can use it in their signatures on any forums that allow you to use images since... well it becomes an image.

check this thread: http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=3856 there's some code there that uses the GD image library to display the viewers IP in a newly created image. |
