In my opinion, the easiest way to learn some programming languages is to download a few open source programs written in that code, and look at it for a while, then try to edit it. It's much easier then immediatly trying to write a simple program, because it's all there, and you just need to figure out what the commands mean. For example, PHP's not a hard language to figure out, and if you just see a few bits of code from the language, most commands are simple to understand...

So, for anyone having trouble learning a programming language, it couldn't hurt to try out my method, could it?

Jesus. I pity you if that's how you learned PHP.

I dont ... it's a decent way to learn the basic functions like extracting from SQL and storeing, when one has never seen it done before ( code wise ).

Althou viewing premade source iis not always the best, I usually just use php.net for any of my problems

from what i understand the AB source was not the most conventionally structured code, and that may be what Dan was referring to. But i think you're right, for the most part that's the best way to learn from just random examples and source.

i think using the acmlmboard code works well, it helps to learn what is what, and what what does.

i was speaking merely from the visual structure of the code. i've barely looked at it enough and don't have the knowledge to say the code content is bad

I learnt most unusual functions because of the AB code, which is really easy to read (compared to other message board code).
