Just in case some people didn't see it yet, I thought I'd post a thread about this. Enterbrain is making a new RPG Maker called RPG Maker XP. You can see some screenshots and some info at their site. http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/digifami/products/rpgxp/ Or, you can see a translated version over here.. http://www.phylomortis.com/html/rmxp1.html It looks pretty good from the screenshots, and the new graphics seem pretty nice as well. The only thing that seems a little weird to me at the moment is the new battle layout. The new features such as a resolution of 640 x 480 in games, new layers and better sound support (aside .mp3 evebn .ogg ) it simply looks more interesting. Nevertheless it basically it is based on the RM2k(3) engine; but as for reading information found in the Internet, it has neat new additions. The battle system is weird; on the one hand the really realistic background (due to the finer resolution and thus the gradieents ans such etc.) and a kick-ass lightning bolt for example; but to see comic-stylish monster with this realistic BG ... This is plain odd and doesn't fit at all I don't know if I would buy it then; it is pretty expensive, maybe testing the new RM XP would be a nice idea |

They just destroyed the battle system again. They could let like RM2K3... At least there is that 'real' scripting feature that will make CBSs and CMSs coding a lot easier. |

If they had more than two screenshots, I might be able to defend their recommended requirements, which Ultimanium pointed out. Other than that, the program itself sounds cool. |

I think the file size of about 500 megs should also reduce the amount of downloaded copies illegally. Although many people do this with any software in the Internet, there are major differences. RM2k3 including the required RTP has less than 30 megs of size And, yes, the requirements are beefy. But probably this has something to do with the large amount of stuff the game has to handle, such as the higher resolution with more FPS, encoding sound files etc. (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 03-19-04 04:36 PM) |

I wonder when this will be released. The battle system looks like to be like RPG 2000's (which I prefer). I don't understand why it would require a computer which is that powerful however. The GFX looks impressive... but not impressive to require a computer like that (there's no 3d or anything). |

It probably needs those requirements to be able to run everything at the same time. If there's alot of stuff happening at the same time, it will run slow on a computer even if there's no 3D. Lord Rahl, there's more than two screenshots, the buttons at the top of the page lead to other pages, and each page contains a few screenshots. (edited by Jack-Al on 03-19-04 06:22 PM) |

Don't forget. today's computer suck at 2D operations. Heck, that's why we need FrameSkip in emulators and such. |

Im not sure but i think, and hope the battle system is more customizeable and i think that when the enemys attack you can have battle animation unlike 2000s battle system inwitch the enemy would attack and the only thing that would happen was a sound and the screen shake. |

I think the one thing holding back the RPG maker series more than anything is the tileset limitations. That's the one thing that I never liked about it.

The Battle System of RPG Maker XP almost reminds me of the Battle System in Lufia. Where you only see a sprite of the character next to his or her stats. Except in RPG Maker XP it seems like it's a whole drawing, which would make custom characters harder to make, but then again, like Gandalf The Grey said, you can just make your own Battle System.

640x480, a new feature ? Not really, just something they took out after RM95 and eventually readded now... As for the size and requirements of the program, I guess it's their way of fighting piratage indeed... Either that, or they coded the program poorly. |

Ok! Seeing how they messed up before, I guess it's the 2nd option... |

Could be, seeing how fast they came up with this one... Whereas they used to leave a few years between each RPG Maker release. Could be a bit of both actually... |

Well I think that if you can recode the battle and menu system then that will be rather convenient. I personally like the RM2k3 battle system, but I wanted to make it turn based and have the enemies have their own animations (I don't think either one will be possible in the scripting, but I can at least hope). I haven't touched RM2K3 in months, so it doesn't matter to me. Now I'm just playing the games. |

Hey gandolf. How do you switch the battle sytem in 2003 and what exactly do you mean? I like 2003 but hate the fact that you have no choice but have the ATB thing i hate that i like turn based battle system kind of like in final fantasy 4.

It will probably reduce the amount, but not by much. It will also make it a little harder to find. People who really want it though will probably still be able to get it easily enough. |
