Actually, I don't think that's a bad idea -- I think I've seen that on Erk's board. When someone sends you a PM, at the top of the page your viewing, the PM link appears.  |

| that, or just have it at the top of forum.php as well.... maybe easier that way? not that it would be too hard to do it other ways... but it would be annoying to have to see that everytime you got a pm.... not that I'm gonna get many, but for someone like Acmlm it would probably be a pain |

| yeah, unless you -never- visit index.php, it's hard to not notice.... I usually notice immediately once I hit index.php that I have a pm..... I don't understand why other people don't notice them | |||

| I don't understand how people miss new PM's. I like the feature at Erk's Board. A pop-up isn't a good idea. 1. It's annoying. 2. Everyone using Mozilla/Firefox won't see them. |

| I can add a link at the top (next to Logout | Edit profile | etc.), I guess, but I don't know about adding the whole thing or a popup ... you normally end up in index.php so often that you should normally see new private messages pretty fast, or at least that's how it's always been for me |

| I coded the PM window so that it will show up on thread.php and forum.php ONLY if you have a new private message otherwise it functions as normal on index.php Acmlm has access to my code... he's more than welcome to pull it out I think I changed layout.php and index.php and of course added a simple if statement in thread.php and forum.php |

| One forum I go to doesn't have a pop up when you have a PM, but a little image appears up next to the banner with an envelope when you have a PM. It stands out pretty well, I wonder if something like that would work? | |||

| That could work ... if I add the "Private messages" link at the top, and make it show a little icon (or "(1 new)") if there's a new message ... simple and efficient, I think Showing the announcement link on the main page should be good too, I've seen it done on other AcmlmBoards before |

| yeah Acmlm... but if you make another link up top in $headlinks or $headlinks2 that just wastes already needed space up there just have the whole Private box display any time you have a new PM..... any pages you want to disable that on IE private.php showprivate.php newreply.php newthread.php just throw $nopriv =1 ; before layout.php is called (edited by ErkDog on 03-19-04 05:57 PM) |
